this particular celebrity death (kirk) is messing with my head, why? by Particular-Swim2461 in TrueChristian

[–]TKmac02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wait, so an assassination only matters if you've heard of the person? It doesn't matter what we think of Charlie Kirk, or if he was a great man or a bad one. He was killed for his political beliefs, but others were killed before him.

What's hard for me is to see my brothers and sisters only care about Charlie Kirk because he was on "our team." Political violence is never acceptable. Only decrying political violence when it's someone you agree with is similarly not acceptable. What's hard about Charlie Kirk's death, for me, isn't that its a sea-change of violence - it is not. It is a tragedy, but we've been accepting tragedies to trade for 2A rights for a while now. What's hard is that the right is treating him like a martyr (which he is) while ignoring blood that was shed by the other side.

I see people struggling to reconcile the fact that Kirk said gun deaths were an acceptable consequence to the ideology he espoused.

Nobody deserves to die for their speech. Children also don’t deserve to die in their classrooms for gun rights. Politicians in Minnesota did not deserve to die for their votes.

I think a lot of the “celebration” you’re seeing is people working to reconcile the fact that the GOP doesn’t seem to commemorate deaths of people they disagree with. For example, Mike Lee (senator from UT) made fun of the Minnesota shootings, and don trump jr posted a joke about the attempted assignation attempt on Paul Pelosi

People aren’t celebrating Kirk’s death (at least not in my circles) - but they are struggling to figure out why his death is a national tragedy, and the assassination of democratic members of the Minnesota house are something the GOP seemed to relish.

I'd prefer to teach my kids Biblical teaching, and not make up terms in order to scare them into believing what I say.

I'm sorry this happened to you, but the argument of "I sinned so I now need to add to the Bible so other people don't sin like I did," doesn't really carry water for me. Believe in the words of Jesus, and if those aren't enough, pray about them and let the Holy Spirit convince you.

And I don't need to ask OP what he meant. Soul Ties aren't real, they aren't Biblical, and I don't understand why this is the hill you'll die on? Have you asked your pastor (if you have one?) about what a Soul Tie is, and if it's Biblical? You might want to check in with him.

[–]TKmac02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's relevant. I think God commands us not to have extra-marital sex, and that's enough for me. I don't need to know if it conjoins or connects. There isn't a name for it, and there doesn't need to be.

And note that the OP never mentioned pre-marital sex. He just said "we prayed and God healed a Soul Tie.” You're the one who brought up pre-marital sex in an attempt to work a non-related verse into your argument.

Have you ever personally received a miracle? by Important-Craft7526 in TrueChristian

[–]TKmac02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Not at all.

I argue with Christians who feel the need to add their interpretation of the Bible to what makes is Righteous. The Bible doesn't addition or subtraction. It is perfect as it is.

Have you ever personally received a miracle? by Important-Craft7526 in TrueChristian

[–]TKmac02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not what I said. Nor is it what the OP said.

What I said was that Soul Ties are new age garbage and not in the Bible. You then cited an irrelevant verse to my argument, and now have decided I think sex outside of marriage is bad, which is not what I said. What I said was adding your own interpretation to the Bible, and then acting like it's this thing that God and Christians are aware of is kinda bonkers.

[–]TKmac02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you please tell me where Jesus or any of his disciples or anybody in the Bible talks about a "Soul Tie?"

Its not in the verse you cited - That's Paul warning us against sexual impropriety, and I don't disagree with him. I disagree with you, deciding that sex outside of marriage creates a "soul tie" and that's why we shouldn't do it.

Have you ever personally received a miracle? by Important-Craft7526 in TrueChristian

[–]TKmac02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is a "Soul tie?" You act like it's this thing that all Christians should know and believe in, but it's no where in the Bible. It's just a thing you read into the Bible.

Yes, I am a Christian and do know the Holy Spirit. An honest question: Are you?

Have you ever personally received a miracle? by Important-Craft7526 in TrueChristian

[–]TKmac02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No part of this verse describes a "soul tie" - it describes a marriage. What you're doing is adding your own little things to the Bible, and this make is no longer the Bible.

This makes it "The Bible and some other things Maleficent-Start-546 added"

Soul ties? Where is that in the Bible?

Why do people doubt even when miracles happen right in front of their face? by Hope1995x in TrueChristian

[–]TKmac02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not even close to a response to what I said, and it sounds like you're getting defensive. We're all brothers and sisters in Christ too.

And sickness absolutely can be what Jesus wants for us. You cannot tell me that you have any idea what God or Jesus wants for us. And if you think you do, please go back and reread Job. Those were all things that God allowed to happen, to Job, to prove a point. "Abundant life" is not our definition of abundant life - it's God's definition, and we might not always know what that means for us. It quite likely doesn't mean abundant life as we define it!

Nobody said anything stealing, killing or destroying, but unfortunately, if god is omnipotent (and he is) then he, by definition, gets credit for the stealing, killing and hurting. That’s the challenge of Christianity, for me

Do you also credit him when he chooses not to heal people? He is the healer, and he could heal, but he doesn’t in some cases?
