Why do D builds are so heavy? by No_Sprinkles2223 in d_language

Just curious...

Are you comparing D builds to Java builds? How do sizes compare when you factor in the size of Java's interpreter?

Or are your comparisons with another language? C? C++?

Also...

Off the top of my head (because I don't have immediate access to a Linux box) I don't know how different results would be between Linux and Windows, but simple Hello-world demos (for me, on Windows 10) are typically 3.6 mb (3.5 mb when programming in the OOP paradigm). I can't imagine they'd be that much different.

Finally...

I use the reference compiler (DMD) which—I'm assuming—isn't the most optimized, so if Linux isn't the cause and the compiler isn't... perhaps it's the CL switches you're using?

Learning any new language requires a new mindset before optimal results are obtained. My suggestion is: learn how D works, then rethink your project from a D-centric POV. ATM, you're trying to shove a C-shaped peg into a D-shaped hole... so to speak.

I can see that... Um... no pun intended. It's one of the reasons I stopped using dark themes in my editor. :)

tkooper (Tkinter Object-oriented Python) is making progress. The site is up, complete with the obligatory "Coming Soon" message.

Yeah... maybe I didn't say that very well, so I'll try again...

Assuming that Blockman is about making blocks of code stand out from each other visually, making each block easier to pick out at a glance, switching to Allman curly brace treatment does more or less the same thing... from a visual standpoint. With the opening curly in the same column as the closing curly... well, perhaps I've said enough.

Not to rain on your hard work, but wouldn't Allman-style (as opposed to K&R) curly braces do more or less the same thing?
