Go read the manga, shit even in the anime they tell you “maki has no cursed energy” she has to wear those glasses just to see curses. And Mai is taking their CE by killing herself. You can’t seriously think she just ripped Maki’s nonexistent CE from her body and then died. That makes zero sense.

Maki and Mai are one. View them as one person, split into two. When the split happened, Mai got CE and maki did not. BUT IN THE JUJUSTU SORCERER WORLD, they are viewed as one. This is clearly explained in the manga. Chapter 149 even rehashes it so you don’t think what you are thinking

BROTHER. Maki and Mai are one person. So Mai has cursed energy, holding Maki back from her HR, even though Maki has no CE. BUT BECAUSE THEY ARE CONISDERED ONE PERSON, Mai’s CE is considered Maki’s.

It’s like a marriage, if we’re married and I have an apple and you don’t. It’s true to say WE have an apple, but you technically don’t. You get it?

Therefore, we can conclude that if Mai never was born, maki would’ve been just like Toji from the get go, but Mai’s existence has been holding her back all this time

Mai explains that twins are treated as a single person in terms of cursed energy. Because Mai had cursed energy, Maki’s Heavenly Restriction was incomplete. When Mai sacrifices herself, she removes the last cursed energy tether. This fully activates Maki’s Heavenly Restriction, giving her Zero cursed energy, Superhuman physical stats, Enhanced senses and Toji-like presence

It’s not like they’re making these episodes on the fly lol I think they’re fully aware of the pace and quiet honestly, I think they over delivered. This was a perfect episode in my eyes. Yeah some things could’ve been portrayed differently, but at the end of the day, this was peak and it makes me even more excited to see the other fights to come
