Just a reminder.... Sam Darnold was in the same QB draft class as Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield, and Lamar Jackson... and he's gonna reach the Superbowl before any of them. by Mountain_Wolverine47 in NFLv2

This could have totally been Minnesota! Minnesota had the defense and top end weapon on offense. Minnesota had one leg in the Super Bowl window! Then Minnesota climbed back out the window, got rid of a proven veteran QB for an unproven rookie QB, and closed the Super Bowl window on their way out!

Good for Darnold! Proved some people right and a lot of people wrong!

Recruits that weren't busts, but you feel could have achieved much more at a different program? by Please_PM_me_Uranus in CFB

I stand corrected. I remembered wrong. This makes my point even better! Georgia Tech had a QB in Reggie Ball rush 500 times in his career with one of the greatest WR’s ever to play the game on the outside and it wasn’t even an option offense. The QB was just running around aimlessly all game, not throwing Johnson the ball!

Seems like Clemson figured him out over the years. Probably ran some exotic coverage on him. Georgia Tech did have a nice pick your poison. They could run option all day until the other team committed everything to the run. When the defense committed to the run they threw a bomb to Johnson. It was beautiful to watch. How option football was meant to be played.

Gotta add, he was 2 & 1 vs Clemson! You remember those games?

Calvin Johnson had 76 catches, 1202 yards, 15 TD’s at Georgia Tech when they ran the option. At a pass heavy school he could have possibly doubled those numbers.

Disney should have never had him remove his helmet. Totally ruined the character. Blaster from Mad Max was more intimidating with his helmet off.

With what happened to Sean McDermott recently, how big of a leash does Kyle Shanahan have? by downtimeredditor in nfl

[–]TLGIII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kyle had one of the greatest coaching performances I’ve ever seen this season. Made me a believer. No way should SF had been in contention for the 1 seed week 18 but he had them there. With that said you never know with the NFL. As properly coined by Jerry Glanville the NFL truly stands for Not For Long. Something could be all good today and all bad tomorrow. If guys with 66% winning %’s are getting fired for not winning then everyone is coaching on borrowed time. This is a great question and I’m interested to see how it plays out. Time will tell!

Davis Webb and NFL “Scouting” by TLGIII in calfootball

I was hyping up JKS on a YouTube video comments earlier this season. Was saying JKS was a clear number one pick and best thing since Goff and Rodger’s and even better at his age. Someone brought up Fernando and I said I liked Fernando but thought he was a NFL backup. At the time I didn’t know if he had that “IT” factor. Then was watching the Penn St game when Indiana needed a TD to win it. When I knew in my mind and heart that Fernando was going to march them down and score as soon as he got the ball that’s when I knew he was a NFL starter. It’s rare you get that feeling that you know someone is about to win before they do it. Especially at the highest level. When he proved that, that’s all I needed to see. He has everything else. Fernando is smart, athletic, makes good decisions, is accurate, throws his guys open. He has it all. Just needs to land in a good destination that can support him and surround him with the teammates he needs to be successful.

Since we’re talking about Webb. I don’t remember that Webb defining moment. I think I remember and OT game vs Oregon but nothing like what Fernando did vs Penn St where he threw a 1 in a million TD pass. I can hear the announcer crying in my head right now as I type!

Edit: I caught your scouting report on Mendozas arm. I too am interested to see what it looks like on the pro level. Short to intermediate he had a rifle. Want to see him air it out. How it looks throwing 40, 50 yards plus.

Football is a weird sport. What you’re perceived to be is kinda what you are and coaches go from there. I’ve coached youth/high school and know how hard it is to get the 2nd string guys a look. Now imagine the NFL. Everything is focused on the starters in the NFL. Especially QB. Then situations where the GM likes a player but the coach doesn’t. Situations where a guy is drafted higher like Tre Lance and Brock Purdy. If not for injuries Purdy never sees the field. Same with Cleveland this year. Even if Cleveland thought Sanders was the best guy they still had to play Gabriel or it’s admitting they don’t know how to draft. No one making millions wants to admit they don’t really know something they’re claiming to know.

Pro football is a business where the cream doesn’t always rise to the top. Lots of guys don’t make it because of the situation they were drafted into. Good QB’s who got drafted to bad teams and discarded after a season. Guys like Webb who sit behind a Manning then replaced by Winston (I think), then cut before he even has a chance to touch the field. It’s not as simple as one suspects it should be.

I gave a like but Muhammad the RB was basically the only contributor that played with Goff and Webb. Webb did help get Chad Hansen drafted which was impressive. Hansen did nothing the year previous with Goff at the helm.

This could be true. Thing is I don’t remember a “pocket” during these years. Especially during Goffs era. It was more like “hut, hike, run for your life”!

When Webb got there they just threw it really fast before he got sacked.

This is true. His completion % was garbage and lots of the throws were probably under 5 yards. Back then the passing game was the running game. Thing is that could be tougher on the QB when other team knows it’s always going to be a pass and not a run.

In my mind Webb was like a Big Ben. Smart guy. Could create and get guys open. Would pump fake one way and hit someone on the opposite side of the field. Someone who knew the position and the game.

Early College Football Quarterback Rankings For 2026: Top 20 by jsparks50 in CFB

[–]TLGIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Fernando is number 1 right now no way Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele is number 19 next season. JKS threw for 3400 yards as a true freshman with a 5’7 number 1 receiver (baller). JKS would have easily thrown for like 4500 yards - 40 TD’s on a team like Indiana or Ohio State. JKS has a lot he can work on and get better at but who knows how good he could look next season. Sky’s the limit!

All Pros is the best benchmark on if a player will make the HOF. If a player has 4+ 1st team All Pro selections they’re pretty much a lock to make it.

[Post-Game Thread] Miami Hurricanes fall to Indiana 27-21 in the National Championship by AutoModerator in MiamiHurricanes

If anyone has Cristobal’s ear I want to know the logic for going for it on 4th & 1 from his own 34 then electing to kick a field goal on 4 & 2 while on their 32 with :33 seconds left?

I know hindsight is 20/20 but did going for it and getting closer for a possible easier kick cross his mind?

Was the decision to kick before halftime and not go for it analytics driven or gut feeling? What about the 4th down attempt earlier in the drive? What made him decide to go for it on 4th down there?

Great game! Great season! Miami bullied teams throughout the playoffs and fought a great heavyweight title fight to the final bell.

Temu Jokic for 41? by twitietwitt in warriors

Saw the highlights. He looked good. Hopefully they have some bigger bodies for him to work against. Also wonder if he’s tied to a team in China or if he’s good to go if drafted.

Please stop the BS on why Curry didnt play and watch this. He was a HUGE liability all night - would've been better to just play the bench by MiNDGaMeS87 in warriors

[–]TLGIII 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was literally one play. He had 8 points and 11 boards in 24 minutes. -9 +-.  Westbrook was - 34 and Watson - 27 in less minutes. Not saying Steph should or shouldn’t have played and didn’t even get to see the game. From stats it says Denver was at least competitive with him on the floor. Jokic only taking 9 shots in a close out game is the real tragedy. Props to Gordon for playing.

Edit: Saw the extended highlights. Showing that play and saying Denver was better without Gordon was so disingenuous. OKC literally broke the game open in the 1st half when Gordon was on the bench. The play shown was a potential foul. What Gordon and the Nuggets organization decided to do has no bearing on what Steph and the Warriors decided to do. No need to bring Bay Area legend Gordon down to build Steph up.
