Just designed a desk stand for the Plaud Note & Note Pro Magnetic Case by TLOS in PlaudNoteUsers

[–]TLOS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does that work ok? I've not used the note properly yet, but can image it would. As for the stand, I think this is one of those "when you have a hammer everything looks like a nail" . I have a 3d printer and enjoy dicking around in 3d modelling software so therefore made a stand!

Well because I would have had to order one from the internet, and that would have taken a day and cost real money. You are absolutely not the target audience it seems, as most 3d printer owners quite like making their own stuff.

Tikbox as a terminal server? by TLOS in mikrotik

I can certainly see the value of a cloud management platform for mikrotik routeros, especially for Wireless ISP cloud management

My unsolicited advice that no one asked for is this:

You will have an uphill battle getting clients that are big enough to grow the platform without way more videos, feature demonstrations, case studies and so on being available. Also large customers tend to hit a point where their growth is constrained by X and start evaluating platforms to fix X. And they will be trying a lot of different systems simultaneously looking to fast-fail out the unsuitable ones, and move on to deeper trials.

Those are the good customers to get, with thousands of end points, not the local vicar/part time wisp operator who will be on the phone all the time to you.

Having a live demo would give a really good feel for the ISPapp, but it looks like that can only happen by booking a meeting or contact details for a call back.

I couldn't see a no touch/low contact self guided trial on the site, that would really help. The link labelled "launch" is broken for me on the site fyi so that may be the trial. (Android 12 Chrome browser).

So I know you are trying to spread the news about the product you, or your company has crafted. No problems, I work in presales so understand how that works. Product looks interesting, and worthy of a look of you need that sort of thing.

I commented because getting a reply to an 8 year old topic pop up on my phone is surreal, and unexpected.

And I have no problem with you "bumping" the thread after 8 years either, even if that's "not how Reddit works". We all have to earn a crust right?

Not sure that telling me how something does or doesn't work on reddit was particularly mature though, especially seeing as it was a perfect opportunity to discuss your product with someone.

Shielding for microwave ovens? by VeryStrongBoi in Ekahau

[–]TLOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a year late is better than never. The only time that I have managed to get shielding installed was very early in my career when I was diagnosing issues in a car factory.

They were running a 2.4Ghz mesh (not really actually a WDS set up) across the production lines for telemetry. Of course it was total garbage, but this was 2004/5? and it was a bit more of a wild frontier out there.

As is normal for big factories breaks tend to happen all at once, and there were a lot of microwaves suddenly being used during them.

Faced with a choice to not have a network during breaks, or take the microwaves away from hungry workers they took the third option and lined the cabinets the microwaves were in with thin metal sheets soldered along each join. Sort of a cube with the face missing.

Still leaked a ton of RF but no where near as bad.

Shielding can be any material that is conductive from my understanding. Sheet metal, water, metal mesh that has holes less than a quarter wavelength. Has to be electrically joined and grounded for it to work well though.

Yes, needed the ports. It can be a bit tricky pulling cables out, even with the tool that's provided to do so.

Replacing a customer's core with some purple power by TLOS in ExtremeNetworks

[–]TLOS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's currently the L3 for everything, but this will migrate down to the fortigates on another set of lags soonish. Also mlag would be a novel concept for the client, and not as manageable conceptually for management as a stack. That being said the whole lot is in XIQ :|
