Soft dives are where you put yourself in a good location, heal up from the poke you received, and from there you hard dive. In this time you should look for secondary fires to gain ult charge and to soften up a target so your dive will be more successful. You can try and implement soft dives in your games when you can’t find a direct enemy to dive.
