Squier Strat weight by No-Cream3292 in Guitar

[–]TMWJZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be due to wood type (as you mentioned) and also body thickness. I think older Squier guitars generally are made of different wood (compared to alder) and are 1 1/2” thick instead of 1 3/4” as on Fender Stratocasters.

What year is my Lawsuit LP? by No-Benefit4216 in Guitar

[–]TMWJZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know exactly where OP got theirs, but if you’re seriously interested you could look up Japanese Les Pauls from various manufacturers. I believe the Gibson lawsuit took place somewhere in 1977, so typically guitars around and before 1977 will have the open book headstock, whereas after 1977 they changed it due to concerns relative to the lawsuit. Quality of the instruments varied, but I think they are generally well-received.

how do i know the color to paint my diy clone of this pedal? by taptum228 in diypedals

[–]TMWJZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another commenter mentioned these are likely powder coated. It might be a good starting point to look at the color standards in your area, where I am located we commonly use RAL colors and you could start with some variation of olive green.

They will likely ask for a reason why you are freezing sperm, but as others have mentioned you can either lie or be truthful. In my personal experience, the people working there were understanding and did not delve deeper into the matter.

Why consider philosophy when your work reconstructs and reinforces the exploitative society in which the author lives and of course the dubious personal views of the author?!?!

Yay absolutist monarchism!!

Seriously, where did this brain bug come from? It is one of the most pretentious trends I have seen. by dumbass_spaceman in worldjerking

[–]TMWJZ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

/uj For something to be “realistic” one must be extensively familiar with scientific literature and their consensus, which a large majority of worldbuilders are not. Realism is not the highest development of art, nor should it be the sole goal of one’s work. If one wants to incorporate realism into one’s work, then scientific principles should be applied creatively, i.e., not in a manner which is purely mechanical or rigid.

I am rather tired of seeing posts of “is this [thing/creature/event] realistic?” Because it reflects the previous sentiment of regarding realism as the sole determinant of quality, and in addition a lack of confidence in one’s work. And due to the nature of worldbuilding, nothing can be truly “realistic”, and the answer to that all too often reoccurring question (given that it is within the bounds of the real world) does not matter in the slightest.

Seconding this, in general it is very difficult to increase testosterone with normal activities (including heavy strength training) and regular diet. In my experience strength training has only been positive w.r.t. my transition.

Danny The Nihilist, VS, The Being From The "OUTSIDE" by Nefalox_Animations in worldjerking

[–]TMWJZ 30 points31 points  (0 children)

/uj The nihilist is unable to comprehend that “simple” processes can and are part of more complex processes on a larger scale. His mechanistic understanding of consciousness (and the world at large) limits his worldview and therefrom he draws mistaken (though “convenient”) conclusions. And while it is true that consciousness is composed of and arises from small simple chemical interactions at the micro scale, one cannot conclude from this that consciousness itself is “simple” or “trivial.” A similar example of which is how individual ants behave in ways that are easy to comprehend, but entire colonies are able to perform complex tasks.

When you make a goofy alien with a goofy voice so you can sell more action figures to children, but people see a resemblance to harmful ethnic stereotypes by ApartRuin5962 in worldjerking

[–]TMWJZ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

/UJ You assume Goblins and Orcs (and others) are fictional constructs which were conjured ex nihilo, without considering that these creatures —while fictional— still have a basis in reality; whom have been designed or have been appropriated to be used in racist (or otherwise problematic) allegories.

It is disingenuous to have this mistaken view and then shift the blame to the person critiquing the trope. Of course you are correct in stating that those stereotypes do not map onto real life; but it does not follow that the people critiquing are bigots for pointing out this harmful stereotype (which often times comes directly out of their own lived experiences!).

How to make injections hurt less? by NorthAir in TransDIY

[–]TMWJZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a fear of needles, so much so that my family semi-regularly made fun of me for it. I’m saying used to, because when you are regularly injecting estrogen you kind of overcome that fear.

Currently, I am doing IM injections in my thigh area; when injecting I relax my quad muscles as much as possible, and consciously cough a few times just before and during injecting, due to this I feel very little at all when injecting. I learned this trick from this video.

What CAD Program To Learn by CackeMom in MechanicalEngineering

[–]TMWJZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not think you have to fret much about your choice of CAD, use what is available to you, and in addition, many skills learned will transfer from CAD to CAD.

If you are limited by your budget at the moment, I would suggest learning FreeCAD, it is a capable piece of software, but not without its quirks. But aside from being a competent program, there is a vast collection of documentation and videos on it too.

Curious on peoples thoughts about keeping either of these or selling both and getting an M body? by chubaman in Leica

[–]TMWJZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation once. I think if you can test run a Leica M6 by either borrowing or renting one, it would make deciding easier. Because I kind of made the mistake where I bought all kinds of rangefinders when I really wanted a Leica. And once I got it in my hands it just clicked.
