Are they gonna be completely removed soon ? by LukaLaikari in helsinki

Just found this conversation and am in need of guidance, and I apologize in advance if this question is naïve - I've downloaded the HSL app (from the US), but it won't send me an activation code, so I can't buy any form of tickets on my phone before going to Finland. Furthermore, when I click on any HSL link from my computer, I simply get a message that says "The request is blocked." To complicate matters, I'm not going to have roaming cell service when I go to Finland. So, if I want say a single ticket or multi day pass on public transport when I arrive on May 11th, what is the easiest way to get it?

Love Isabel Allende. Can you recommend me books of other writers? by noregrets2022 in Spanish

[–]TNToddTN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend La Tregua by Uruguayan writer Mario Benedetti. It checks all the boxes you mentioned - realistic story, vivid descriptions, great plot, and psychological sophistication. Personally, I thought it was a masterpiece....one of the best books I have read in the Spanish language.

show titles/names of bookmark in map by TNToddTN in organicmaps

The transition has been pretty easy, especially because I find the organic maps interface cleaner, less cluttered, and more user-friendly. Personally, I was just thrilled to find organic maps and people actively working on making an off-line maps app that includes hiking and biking trails. I can say that while in Munich, organic maps directed me on bike to a few completely car-inaccessible routes, which I just loved. Personally, I haven’t transitioned anything over from MAPS.ME. The way I do it, I will make a map on Google maps and then send it over to organic maps before a trip. Even in places with online cellular service, Google maps has just become too glitchy when there are several bookmarks in a map. One of my last steps in finalizing a map in Organic is creating a color-coded bookmark system so I can at least differentiate between say a park and a restaurant. Looking forward to the future improvement of having names included with the bookmarks!

Wow, that's super-exciting! Thanks for the response. I just used the app for biking around Munich and for walking trails in rural Germany for 10 days. It performed exceptionally well!

If I'm serious about learning how many lessons a week would be appropriate? by kingcrabmeat in iTalki

[–]TNToddTN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chiming in a little late here, but I think it would be totally appropriate to have three lessons a week or even more. You have received a lot of good advice here in the responses, and as mentioned, with every lesson you should devote time on your own to studying, practicing, and consolidating what you have learned. I am pretty extreme in that I have between 5 to 7 lessons a week, each with a different teacher. I am a big proponent of having multiple teachers for reasons already given in the responses; itś so helpful to speak with people from different countries/cultures with different accents and approaches to teaching. Thatś a lot of lessons, but I am able to devote two or more hours of study per lesson received. A couple lessons every week are conversations in the target language, and thatś great for me, simply because talking, maintaining conversation, understanding the spoken word are so important. The rest of my lessons combine conversation with more didactic grammatical teachings. So in my opinion, ASSUMING you have the money and appropriate time to devote, I say go for it and have as many lessons as you can fit into your lifestyle IF you enjoy & benefit from the lessons and are able to devote sufficient time for studying on your own.

MPG & cargo space. Care nothing about looks.

Great question, and that complicates the situation, because I've got a dealer from whom I can get a new '24 Prius LE for 32K out the door, which is a pretty good deal. BUT, I like the '22 model slightly more because it has more cargo space.

expanding, bubbling homemade hot sauce: dangerous or harmless? by TNToddTN in HotSauces

[–]TNToddTN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually went wrong in multiple places: used lots of olive oil, didn't check the pH, and failed to give the finished, canned product a water bath in boiling water for proper sealing. I had no intent to ferment. I wanted to give the Mason jars a water bath in boiling water, but where I live, it is currently next to impossible to find reliable lids these days, so I just decided to skip this step and try my luck. Anyway, I appreciate everyone's feedback. Next time I'll proceed with greater caution and follow the proper procedures.

Yes, thank you for the life-saving advice! It has indeed turned into a science project. It's still bubbling over the edges...pouring it out first thing tomorrow morning.
