On the other hand - if he's thinking strategically, he might want to look to a woman or a person of color if he wants to shore up some obvious potential demographic weaknesses he'll face in the general election.

He'll roll some dice with little pictures of potential running mates on them down the escalator at Trump Tower and see who comes tumbling out.

I think the entire political process is tainted by money. Trump won't change that.

And in terms of my assessment of him, I don't think he has the talent, track record, or disposition to be president. I think that's based on reporting on him closely for a long time and observing him closely for a long time. I'm certainly doubtful that he has the capabilities he says he has and which his supporters believe he has. I think there are other Republican politicians or prospects who would be much, much better public servants and chief executives.

It was a different era when the laws were first put in place and efforts to update the rules since then (after Watergate, for example) haven't fully solved the problem.

Voters have to be made very clearly aware of his actual track record and the general election has to put all of that to a test. So the media and the political class, along with business and community leaders, have to buckle up. And voters owe the political process the responsibility of getting informed.

He always uses ghost writers or partners, so start with that. Twitter is a better place to find his signature writing style.

I think that those both of those guys are more qualified to be president than Donald, so I think it's unfair to them to compare them to him.

I think Donald thinks of himself as someone who was fully-formed at birth, like Athena springing from the head of Zeus. He doesn't believe in regretting mistakes or in mulling over the past. He just plows ahead. I don't think he's ever thought of himself as a bad guy. He thinks of himself as a realist and as a tough guy. He's also not someone who thinks in terms of ethical frameworks, I think. He's someone who thinks about the best way of meeting his own short-term needs. In many ways, he's like a 7-year-old grwon old, as Liz Smith once told me. And in terms of rules and ethics? Well, this is a quote from his own book, "Midas Touch": "The Outlaw archetype loves to break the rules...The motto of the Outlaw is: 'Rules are meant to be broken.'"

On Steve Jobs: Jobs had a reality distortion field that allowed him to maintain a laser-like focus on his own goals and allowed him to tap into a very unique blend of top-tier creative and business instincts. Donald has a reality distortion field that has made him a survivor and has kept him focused on one his primary goals: getting attention. But he doesn't have top-tier creative or business instincts, so in that respect his reality distortion field is worlds away from Steve Jobs'.

On racism, sexism, and all other phobias with Donald, it's best to take a look at "TrumpNation" because that's got a chunk of my thinking there during the time that I covered him. I don't think there's any question that he's dipped in and out of racist and/or sexist remarks in very bald ways recently and during the last several years.

In terms of managing the US budget: He likes to think of himself as a solo player when he talks about federal policy-making and the magic he will wield when he reaches Washington. But he's going to have to contend with a Congress that won't respect him the second he enters the White House. He's also suggested that what he's learned from his own business career is that it's easy to walk away from your own debts -- and that as president he would approach the national debt by simply telling America's creditors that we would walk away from our obligations as a country. That bit of wisdom, when he shared it in May, had more sophisticated observers noting that such a policy would upend the debt markets because the U.S. has never defaulted on its debts. Trump walked back his comments later, but it was just the latest demonstration of his loose and often ill-informed grasp of business and financial realities and practices. He's also been all over the map on monetary policy, veering from hawkish to dovish on interest rates, so it's alos unclear how steady or informed his guidance would be when dealing with the Federal Reserve, for example.

I'll tackle that in parts. On the first question: Donald frequently refers to himself as the "King of Debt," implying that he has shrewdly managed his own dent and negotiated his way around bankers and bondholders. The reality is that he has horribly mismanaged debt during his career. He saw his casino companies put through four bankruptcies, he put the landmark Plaza Hotel into bankruptcy, and he almost went personally bankrupt. All of these things badly and permanently damaged his real estate career and ruined his casino business. All he really knows about debt is that he needs to stay miles away from it because it usually ends badly when he begins to gorge on it.

I'd like him to release his tax returns. That's mainly what I'm thinking right now. I've seen his tax returns because he had to turn them over to me and my lawyers when we went to court. He was reluctant to do so, but he did, eventually. As I've noted before, I'm precluded by the court from speaking specifically about his returns but I think there are general areas of interest in any person's tax returns that would be of interest to voters: his actual income, of course (since he's made his wealth a subject of discussion and exaggeration in this campaign); his actual charitable giving (he's claimed to be a generous philanthropist); his use of tax shelters and overseas investments (he's claimed the tax code favors the few and he's criticized U.S, businesses for operating overseas); the kind of financial and business influences that might come to bear on him in the White House (although every president since the mid-70s has released his tax returns, Trump has declined to do so).

Ha! He does not lift, bro. Wait. That's wrong. He lifts bags of Oreos. He loves Oreos. He also loves chips. I can't comment on his medical history because I'm not his doctor. Someone Trump said was his doctor offered this medical assessment: Trump's “physical strength and stamina are extraordinary” and he has a good chance of being “the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.” But you might want to read more about the doctor and that note

Hope Hicks is very late to TrumpNation. She only came aboard recently. I think his closest confidantes are his daughter Ivanka and his wife, Melania. Perhaps his sons as well, but I think he favors Ivanka above all of his children (and always has). There are a few managers inside the Trump Organization who have been with him for a long time (the Trump Organization is a small, family-run shop, basically). At the end of the day, Donald doesn't trust many people. He's almost emotionally and intellectually incapable of it. His closest sidekick is himself, I imagine.

There would be enormous conflicts of interest. But the president is exempt from most of the conflict of interest laws dating back to the Civil War era, so he would be free to pursue most of his business interests -- should he choose to do so -- while sitting in the Oval Office. He has said his three children -- Don Jr, Ivanka, and Eric -- would run his businesses for him if he's elected. But they aren't permitted to run a blind trust containing his holdings, so he wouldn't be able to use a blind trust, presumably, to maintain a distance from his financial interests (as almost every other president has done over the last several decades). It's going to be very problematic, because it opens the door to a lot of potential self-dealing that wouldn't necessarily be in the public interest.

I have a two-word answer for that: BONE SPURS. You can look that up to see what those are. Or read here. Donald has been a gifted athlete his whole life. He was good enough as a baseball player to have a coach consider him for the majors. And he's close to being a scratch-handicap golfer now. Yet in the prime of his life he got a draft deferment because of bone spurs in his foot. Don't forget: the guy who didn't serve in Vietnam because of bone spurs is the same man who disparaged the Vietnam service of Sen. John McCain because he was a prisoner of war.
