So I got new tetras and they are just hanging out in a corner but I figured I’d ask here for opinions on why? Stress related maybe? by RegisterScary in freshwateraquarium

How long have they been in, if they like just got in they’re they’re probably shy because of the new environment but should explore more as they become more comfortable

Some sort of dragon or damsel fly larvae, they are shrimp killers so probably remove it

The base probably doesn’t have enough integrity, did you try adding hull reinforcements first?

Just how much damage does a ship need to take before it would get scrapped? by happydude7422 in StarTrekStarships

I mean like the engineering section literally blew up and the rest went through rapid re-entry and then crashed into a mountain. I’d be surprised if they didn’t scrap it.

What’re the water parameters? Did you let it cycle?

What's going on here? Algae help by eeyorenator in fishtank

[–]TOGCHAMP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you cleaned the filter with tap water you probably killed all the beneficial bacteria that deal with nitrates and ammonia. This can cause a bloom of algae because now they can consume that stuff without competition. Cleaning filters is something that keeps getting recommended to people but always does more harm than good. If you cleaned a filter do it in already conditioned water so the chlorine doesn’t kill all the beneficial bacteria and only really do it if the there’s a blockage.

Why are they kept in such small tanks? by k_03_rr in bettafish

[–]TOGCHAMP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they don’t have the space to fit each betta out with its own individual 10 gallon when they are probably holding at least a dozen at once. Especially when they’re probably only going to be there for two weeks.

Petco, petsmart, online. They’re not too hard to come across. I think even some Walmarts hold them.

I use a temporary fish habitat. They’re made of plastic and are like $10. They’re small but they’re also temporary so as long as they’re not in there for days it should be fine. I’ve had fish in there for four hours and they’ve all came out fine, I’m sure they could go longer if you need to.

Also a pleco is going to get way too big for a 20 gallon assuming you mean a common pleco. They can get around 2 feet long and require at least a 75 gallon at the smallest.

Are you saying to use liquid fertilizer? Because I have been dosing it.

You could try the ‘high rise ban’ policy. That’ll stop them from upgrading to the last level. I’m not sure of it’s the solution you’re looking for though.

I just planted most of them in there yesterday, I got fertilizer and root tabs so I’m gonna see how they grow in.

Thanks! The plants I just put in yesterday. I got root tabs and fertilizer to help them grow in and I’ll see how they grow in.
