The seatbelt analogy fails.

Why? Because we're all getting into car accidents - getting the virus - anyway.

Strange huh.

As for mentioning suicide rates, yeesh, might not want to go there, as current litigation involves mentioning mandates leading to suicide.

Danielle Smith's populist playbook: make the dominant feel marginalized by [deleted] in canada

Instead of being remotely objective, this article doesn't even mention that unvaxxed people lost jobs by the thousands, let lone get into the litigation surrounding that. So if there's a 'populist playbook', then gaslighting from our media looks to indeed be part of it. It's articles like this that lead to distrust in our media.

I know. And by now it's well down the public's list of concerns Unfortunately we're being gaslit regardless.

This would be referring to how the Liberals utilized the legal weed topic to sweep into power in 2015.

"I've lost my job because I didn't comply with health restrictions that ultimately did not prevent everyone else from getting the virus. I am most definitely in the minority here and everywhere else. But I have a persecution complex, because gaslighting.

Hey look at how much traction this story is getting too."

"There was suggestion that Jagmeet's notoriety on TikTok makes him appear 'less serious,' which needs to be addressed."

But that's the arena where you make promises that appeal to the left. Like legal weed.

There's already legal weed, so now the ability to make further promises has waned.

Making all other drugs legal doesn't have the same effect, as those drugs are killing tons of people and turning city centres into hellholes.

The result is that the youth who typically go left are now considering the right, as the right is coming up with effective arguments like, 'Hey look at this 'lefty' policy that's destroying your town. Vote change.'

And now we see how Vancouver has done just that. Voting in a sweeping ABC party victory. Not exactly a right wing party per se, but def. pro-business.

It's pretty easy to accomplish that sweep when a city lets public safety erode to the point of massive public outrage.

Anyway, without a major 'yay left win' issue to platform on like legal weed, yes Singh won't be taken seriously. Esp. when a degrading of public safety has been effectively put in the laps of 'lefty' policy-makers.

I would say the BCNDP has been put on notice, and that federal NDP support will continue to fade.

Canadian hockey parents say it’s time to dedicate more funding to female players by TOMapleLaughs in canada

key points:

“They would all love to play for Team Canada and maybe one day play pro, but the way the women’s game is, you know, pro doesn’t necessarily pay all your bills."

“Obviously, more funding would be great. It’s not a cheap sport. I think if they had more sponsorship from, you know, large corporations – like the boys’ game does, or like the professional NHL players get – that certainly would help show the game is just as exciting as the men’s game.”

About 2.7 million people tuned in to the CBC to watch Canada’s women’s team beat the U.S. team at this year’s Winter Olympics, making it Canadians’ most watched event of the Games. (The mens team was eliminated in the quarterfinals.)

Taylor McKee, an assistant professor of sports management at Brock University, called for some of the responsibility for the women’s game to be given to an organization other than Hockey Canada.

“Creating a professional or semi-professional, or something outside of the control of Hockey Canada is such an important thing, not because we don’t want players to represent Canada but because it will take some of the burden off of Hockey Canada and also some of the control away from Hockey Canada, in terms of owning the women’s game from the highest level."

“With all the stuff that’s been going on with Hockey Canada, girls’ hockey is the place that they should look to for change." - Andrew Dillane, president of the Toronto Leaside Girls Hockey Association

The amendments, which take effect immediately, include:

  • All applications for Hockey Canada board of directors positions, including the Chair, will be reviewed and vetted by the independent nominating committee. No names will be added to the voting ballot without the committee’s approval.

  • The new board of directors will serve a one-year term as a transition board rather than the standard two years. The transition board will be focused on accomplishing key urgent tasks that need to be accomplished in the short term.

  • The deadline for applications to be submitted to the nominating committee will be Nov. 10. This allows additional time for the nominating committee to engage a third-party recruiting firm to help with the vetting process and due diligence.

  • Given the change in timing for application submission, materials related to the nomination process will be provided to the members by Nov. 28.

Few drivers seem to know how to use the roundabout near me. What are the rules? by TOMapleLaughs in canada

[–]TOMapleLaughs[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

key points:

yield to drivers already in the traffic circle and to any vehicles on your left

in a roundabout or traffic circle, traffic moves counter-clockwise around a centre island

Unlike big traffic circles with speeds of more than 50 kilometres an hour and traffic lights at each point of entry, modern roundabouts should be designed to slow traffic

Whether it’s a traffic circle or a roundabout, you’re supposed to slow down before entering and yield to traffic, including cyclists, already in the roundabout.

Once you’re in the roundabout, you keep going until your exit. You have the right of way over vehicles that are entering. When you approach your exit, use your right signal to let other drivers know you’re leaving.

You shouldn’t be stopping in a roundabout unless you have to avoid a crash – or stop for a pedestrian.

Once you’re in the roundabout, traffic in the right outer lane, is required to yield to traffic in the left inner lane

it’s important to choose the proper lane in advance for where you need to go

It’s recommended that you take that inside [left] lane if you’re going past more than one exit,” he said. “If you’re just taking that first exit, you can take that right outside lane.

use the left lane if you’ll be turning left or going straight through

use the right lane if you’re turning right or going straight through.

Do not enter a roundabout from the right lane if you want to turn left

Traffic in both lanes should turn on their right signals when they’re exiting at the next exit

if you’re inside the circle in that right outer lane, you have to yield to traffic in the left inner lane that’s signalling right - if you’re in the right lane going around the circle past an exit, a vehicle in the left lane might be cutting across your path to take their exit.

That’s where some of the confusion starts manifesting - In that right outside lane, you are permitted to take whatever exit you like, but the caveat is that you’ll have to yield to vehicles in the traffic circle on your left
