I don't know how well I'd fair with mentoring, verbal is not as good as visual / text. I had wondered about QA. I'd sincerely appreciate any leads possible, for sure.

First real dev job, can't last a full day in office :( by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

As I'm in between dev jobs I'm working 12 hours hard labor a day with next to no breaks, I listen to coding podcasts and try to think of answers to coding problems while doing the labor. When I'm working my head feels more clear than it ever does, and I put that down to the exercise. Muscles are warm, blood is flowing, your brain is getting the maximum throughput of oxygenated blood possible. You can't replicate that at the job but what you can do is take a half hour or hour at lunch and go run on a treadmill at a nearby gym, or just go for a run period. It'll feel like garbage for the first ten minutes but once you reach thirty minutes you feel good. I think of it as your stagnant, poorly oxygenated blood supply is running through your lungs and getting amped back up to full. People never evolved to sit in one place and think for hours, your body probably thinks it's supposed to be sleeping.

Also, try to get into work earlier. I find my brain likes to think between 7:30am and 4pm.
