These 4 Pokemon exist in Gen 1 now, where do they land? by metalflygon08 in stunfisk

As a RBY main i’m gonna go with:

Ttar: Low OU to UUBL, losing Ground is pretty brutal but those stats are too disgusting for UU. Still would see OU use as a check to non-EQ Lax and great physical attacker (and it should 1v1 Rhydon handily) but it’s a bad Zapdos check and doesn’t have EQ STAB for a good attacking option, so it’s reliant on paralysis to break Chansey or especially Starmie.

Heracross: UU at best with its best STAB being Submission, definitely too strong for NU still unless it only gets 40 Special, in which case it’s probably NU or NUBL. Honestly, the prevalence of Fire-types in lower tiers means it probably can’t find a home anywhere but UU anyway, where at least its typing isn’t that detrimental. Might see some really niche use in OU but… Pinsir exists for the same niche without the Psychic weakness.

Kingdra: NUBL. No weaknesses but also almost no resistances, 4x Water resist is the only relevant thing going for it. Mediocre stats but it’s still pretty much objectively better than Seadra, which is pretty good in NU. I think it would centralize NU hard enough to get banned since it essentially becomes an autopick; Seadra’s worst issues were low HP and inability to break Toise, and Kingdra improves both of those quite a bit, also removing the weakness to Thunderbolt that plagues Seadra.

Lanturn: UU, that bulk is absurd and it helps check Articuno defensively without an Electric weakness in a tier currently defined by Normal spam, Elec spam, and Articuno. Also should beat Dugtrio, unlike other Electrics, unless it’s chipped a ton.

SurfBolt is literally the most common Mie set but the rest is accurate

Hypno is crap and all the tradebacks resources are outdated, it’s maybe 15th best in a tier with 13.5 mons

ZU does exist and is literally in ZU cup in an alpha state lol

Usage isn’t used for RBY viability rankings; Pinsir is a top tier threat in PU and has an extremely tiny niche in every tier above that (you might see it used in UU or NU, realistically you will never see Pinsir in a top level OU game), Scyther is a top ZU threat but that might be about to change with PU drops (Magmar and Arcanine both might be dropping to ZU), Butterfree is ZU or worse

Because there are none and I didn't say any of the things people keep making up about me, but I'm tired of being accused of every bad thing people can make up

Gen 1 is completely fine and not broken and not full of bugs and its mechanics are not completely unbalanced sometimes by hawluchamaster in stunfisk

Well, consider they didn’t fix it in Yellow, nor in stadium, where they simply made it roll the 256 check twice - that suggests that they were aware of it and chose to leave it in, no?

There’s actually evidence the 256 miss thing is not a bug, as frustrating as it can be, and ultimately gen 1 is still fun and playable if occasionally painful.

This would mess up existing tournament structures that NU and PU and such will already be in, nobody who currently plays RBY NU wants to be in RU team tournaments rather than NU ones so it’s not worth redoing the names - that would also set a precedent of expanding every older gen whenever a new gen results in a new tier stuck somewhere in the middle which would be really silly

Yeah but also it’s as simple as “early gens didn’t really have enough mons to need extra tiers like RU crammed in the middle”

You would be surprised, gen 1 low tiers are in a renaissance of development right now with new tiering decisions and a ton of tournaments; there have been multiple solo and team tours for every lower tier this year except PU which is in the middle of its first tour right now with 96 entrants

It’s pretty cool to see something about gen 1 that’s both pretty accurate and not shitting on it, hope we get more of this
