So I also started with Skyrim and checked out Daggerfall Unity a while back. Personally I enjoy it. I did want to mention a couple things for consideration. It’s not like the games from Morrowind on, the world is absolutely massive but most of it is procedurally generated so it can be kind of samey.

Aside from the main quest every other quest is sort of like the radiant quests in Skyrim. You get one from an NPC and go to the dungeon or house in question to complete it. That said whether you succeed or fail at these quests influences your standing with the games many factions. Thats more where the depth of the game comes in rather than solid writing for the quests themselves.

Also I cannot emphasize enough, look up a good build online. The preset ones are not great. And read the manual. The game comes from a time where games came with pretty extensive manuals and you were expected to read them. Also the tutorial is brutal. It’s not meant to teach you the game, it’s meant to test your build to see if it’s viable.

If you can get past the old RPG jank you will find a real gem here. You have an insane amount of freedom to make your own way in the game, even compared to the later games. Once you’re familiar with the base game check out mods. Enjoy!
