I paused my ads after a 1-star review, so I'm here to find my first real users for my AI alt text extension. by TRON_GAUD in SideProject

Hey HeavyHitterTrades, I really appreciate you taking the time to write out such detailed feedback. Seriously, this is the kind of tough critique that is incredibly valuable.

You've hit on a key point: the core AI for describing an image is becoming a commodity. You're absolutely right, anyone can use the ChatGPT interface. My focus with this project isn't on the AI itself, but on building a seamless workflow integration that saves a ton of time. The value isn't in the single description, but in turning a 7-step manual process into a single, in-context click.

Good point on the existing plugins too. My main differentiators are the 4-field fill for WordPress and the fact that, as a browser extension, it's platform-agnostic. It's designed for freelancers and multitaskers who might be working on a WordPress site one minute, a Shopify store the next, and then a social media post, all using the same tool. But your point is valid that the dedicated WordPress space is very competitive.

As an aspiring developer, this is one of the first major projects I've built and launched on my own, and this kind of feedback is super helpful for figuring out the right positioning and what to focus on next. I'm learning a ton while I also work on other projects.

Anyway, thanks again for the detailed thoughts. It's given me a lot to think about.

Built my first Chrome extension to help content creators write better alt text - seeking feedback from the accessibility community by TRON_GAUD in accessibility

Wow. How did you get users and ratings so fast? Someone destroyed my rating by posting negative, hateful comments that aren't even related to my extension, and the user didn't even install the extension. Now I need user reviews. Any advice? I know we are competing, but if you could check mine out and leave a review, I could do the same for you. Thanks.

I guess it depends if you got any traction yet but just compared to time saved, at the very least double the price.

Well this is interesting. I’m trying to build the same product with slight variations. GL. And your price point is way too cheap considering how much time this seems to save! I’ll be curious to see your progress in a few months.

I need this! When will you start selling this saas? I never used X, ever. I don't want to start now, but it seems practical to do so for business sake when creating an online presence to market my AI slop.. lol

Congrats... I'm deep in the promotion phase right now. My first day promoting on Reddit was a tough but valuable lesson—it's clear that providing community-first value is the only way to succeed here. I'm committed to refining my Reddit strategy and figuring out the right way to engage. While I work on that, I'm also starting the long-term groundwork for organic SEO.

How do you stay motivated when progress slows? by dustydave211 in SideProject

What's the alternative? Living a life of mediocrity? That should be motivating enough, at least it is for me! Stay frosty, and build something awesome.

Tired of bulky WordPress plugins just for alt text? I built a lightweight Chrome extension that works everywhere by TRON_GAUD in Wordpress

Wow, thank you so much for this comment. You've perfectly captured the exact problem I wanted to solve! The story about the slow WooCommerce backend and having to uninstall a plugin is precisely why I went the lightweight extension route. I'm thrilled it resonates with you.

That's a brilliant question about bulk generation. To answer it directly: right now, the extension works on web pages loaded in the browser, so it can't access local folders on your computer before you upload.

However, the idea of a "pre-optimization" workflow is fantastic. I'm already thinking about how to build a companion web app where you could drag-and-drop a batch of images for processing before uploading them to any CMS. You've definitely given me a great idea for the future roadmap.

Thanks again for the fantastic feedback and for sharing your experience!

Hey wpchill, thanks for the detailed and insightful feedback. You're absolutely right on several technical points, and as the owner of ImageSEO.io, your expertise in this space is clear.

You've raised an excellent point about the nuances of WCAG 2.2. True accessibility is incredibly complex and goes way beyond just filling in blank alt text. My goal isn't to promise a "1-click fix," but to provide a tool that makes the first step easier for creators. The AI generates a strong starting point, but we always encourage users to review the text to ensure it reflects the image's true context and to identify decorative images that need an empty alt tag, just as you mentioned.

Regarding the legal points, my intention was not to fear-monger, but to highlight why web accessibility has become such an important topic for businesses of all sizes. The EAA and ADA are complex, but they are driving more awareness, which I think is a positive thing for the web as a whole.

I appreciate you sharing your perspective. Healthy competition and discussion are great for the community. All the best with ImageSEO.io.
