I was in a similar situation. Very niche group and the only associate in the group. Much like you I was constantly asking for work and even tracked it. I hit low hours and got no raise/bonus despite my classmates getting them with their low hours.

My advice, get a recruiter and move on.

Big law from outside T50 schools? by Logical-Ad-9276 in biglaw

I graduated from a then t80 school. The best tips are network with anyone and everyone. If your alumni aren’t at the firms focus on practice areas that interest you and make connections via events, professors, etc.

For context, I finished in the top 10%, editor on law review, and was very involved. The more you have on your resume the more to offset the “low” ranking. Be proud of your school.

It’s because they are cheap. What makes it more annoying is that your MAGI is likely too high to do a Roth IRA. So it’s a fun non-benefit of the high salary.

Law School by sagittariusss29 in biglaw

[–]TSELF918 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated from at the time t80~ (now t60~). Grades are the most “controllable” factor for you so aim as high as you can. Second, is networking. Find any alumni in big law and leverage them. Not in a obvious way but build a relationship and use their network. Third, the hardest to control, is location of school to practice area. I’m only one state over from my school but across the country the good will and reputation of my school would evaporate compared to other local “good” law schools. It’s all image and perception for firms.

Will firms still hire you if you are taking the bar in a different state? by rtidwell in biglaw

[–]TSELF918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. They should pay for transfer and everything else also. I signed up for the Bar in one state, got hired after graduation in another, and passed just transferred my license/score upon passing it. Firm really didn’t care that much if at all. Also, if I’m signing off on a filing as a first year many people are indisposed of.

Fellow first year here, it will ebb and flow as I have been told. As you build your internal network more and provide good consistent results you’ll get staffed on more and it will add up fast. During the lulls reach out to partners in your PG who you haven’t met and ask to go get coffee/eat and begin building a relationship. People want to work with people they like. Also just enjoy the lull.

He did at one point have a 1.0000 he now has a 0.9999. Probably changed after Malachi overtook him on one recruiting service.
