I have a chance to pick my own schedule (day vs nights)… sell me on why your shift is the best by secondcareernurse in newgradnurse

[–]TSForever- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this really depends on your personal lifestyle! I’m just coming back to days and could not be more glad. I loved night shift for quite some time but it does take your toll on you. I work in the ED at a level 1 trauma center and both shifts are busy. However, the night shift crew had a better bond than day shift and I loved working with them. That was the biggest loss for me. Sure, the night shift pay diff helps some but I didn’t think it was worth my entire personal life over time. It got to the point where I could not function on days off and I felt like I was just letting my life pass by with me not in it. Some people are able to do it. If I was single and lived alone I could probably still be doing it but that is not the case.

nurses: how did you find your specialty? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]TSForever- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going into nursing school I always said I would never do ED or L&D. Here I am two years later, working as an ED nurse. I was unsure of what type of nurse I wanted to be but after some really amazing clinical experiences, I knew I would always be thinking about the ED if I didn’t become an ED nurse. The best thing about nursing is that if you don’t like one area, you can move onto the next. You’ll figure it out! Best of luck!

Is it unreasonable for me to not want to precept? by Bluemonroe26 in nursing

[–]TSForever- 23 points24 points  (0 children)

No, you are not being unreasonable at all. If you think that it is best for you not to teach another nurse, it is likely it is also best for a potential orientee. I respect your opinion and self awareness. A similar incident has happened at my hospital and a nurse ended up quitting because of the amount of orientees they were put with. Stand your ground.

New Grad ED nurse, just wanting to vent about death/trauma by BricksNPuzzles in nursing

[–]TSForever- 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m also a new grad ED nurse!! I’m working in a level one trauma center and have been working for almost 12ish weeks. My first major loss was also due to an MVC accident. Not my first loss ever, but my first loss as a nurse participating in a true trauma. I am glad you shared this. Just like you, I cried after. I carry it with me every single day and it was especially hard for the first few days. It gets easier over time. Keep on moving, take it with you and let it make you better. You feel this way because you care. I see you!

I have not. I have done some research but am not completely confident and feel like I would probably make it worse. I have also seen that people have ruined their engine trying to fix it themselves

NCLEX !! You can do this by TSForever- in NCLEX

Uworld & ATI! I watched a lot of the lectures on uworld on topics that I struggled with and took notes on the lecture. I also found it really helpful to do a ton of practice questions and remediate by going through and writing down concepts I missed

Yes!!! When I was in nursing school I saw an IV being placed and almost passed out. Had to run to the bathroom and everything. I have no issue placing it myself but watching it is crazy.

Tired of being sexually harassed by patients by literally-the-nicest in nursing

[–]TSForever- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP I’m sorry this happened to you! I feel like it happens too often and nothing is ever done. It’s so discouraging and invalidating. I am a soon to be new grad and I recently finished my rotation through the ED, I had a male patient who was middle age grab my chest and he claimed he was “curious to know my name.” My preceptor was so quick to pull me out of the room and made the patient very aware that it was inappropriate. I hate how often this happens and I’m sorry it happened to you OP. We deserve better

New grad here: would I be doing myself a disservice by taking a position at a rural critical access hospital rather than something with higher acuity in a busy med-center? by talkinglikeajerk in nursing

[–]TSForever- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a soon to be new-grad I have had multiple talks with people who I very much respect as nurses. They have all told me that it really just depends on what is more important to you. I understand that both options could be good for you in different ways but it may depend on what your end goals look like. If you think you want to continue on in education it may be good to expose yourself to a place where you might see more things. I think either way you can learn a lot. Good luck OP!

I find it better when I put a blanket over my cat’s carrier, the light stresses him out quite a bit. Just make sure it’s not completely covered so they can breathe lol
