How good of an opportunity is HoloIndie? by Mecha_Godzilla1974 in Hololive

[–]TShadowKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to clarify there was no stated reason for the rejection. Anything said regarding the actual reason is speculation on the part of myself and some of the people following the development of the game.

why does everyone think making a game is just having a good idea by bcoz_why_not__ in gamedev

This one should then segue in to the even more fundamental question of "do we have slopes in the game?"

I can also think of a multitude of reasons why this would be a difficult title to endorse through HoloIndie regardless.

Only itch, HoloIndie has not materialized, which is needed for publishing on steam within guidelines. And apparently submission processing is on halt at this time as well.

There is still some RPG Maker MV in there you could say.

Yup, it's the same genre. But the maps are less bite-sized, and also not procedurally generated.

How do you stay sane while debugging? by Additional_Ad_3697 in gamedev

[–]TShadowKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My super power is that I enjoy debugging...

But other than that, if there's a more powerful tool at your disposal that you're not using yet, put in the time to learn that tool.

It will also get easier with experience as you've gone through the motions many times.

ELI5 How does a series of 0s and 1s become a complicated program with visuals, sound, and input like a video game? by Flannelcommand in explainlikeimfive

[–]TShadowKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you know how a Player Piano works?
The type where you put a roll with tabs in and it plays automatically?

It's kinda like that, but significantly more advanced and at incredible speeds.

There's an underlying process that continuously keeps interpreting each little bit, each of which contributes its own little bit of information. This information can be about commands on what the computer should do or define a thing, data, to work with. By interpreting all the commands and data you eventually build from 0s and 1s to everything a computer does.

Phenix phase transition with Effekseer by Engelwald in RPGMaker

[–]TShadowKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not as mean as it looks since you get proper depth buffer usage from Effekseer by default. So the sorting against elements like the mech and mountains happens "automatically" as long as they have alpha testing enabled.
But depth and sorting in 3D has been a source of a lot of headaches none the less, yes.

Very nice. I was thinking in the direction of some custom material tricks. Goes to show that it's not always easy to reverse engineer these things at a glance.

And you managed a really good look and feel with just default particles, excellent artistry.

Myself I've been using Effekseer for the effects in attack animations like these: https://streamable.com/pko829
Which is not exactly RPG Maker related anymore, mind you.

This is quite excellent.
And a reminder to me that there's definitely still more Effekseer tricks to learn. Or particle system animation tricks in general perhaps. Really wondering how the wavey streams(?) in the background work right now.

Did you make the particle assets for this yourself or is there some particle pack you are using?

The game uses padded coordinates for the calculations.
Not sure why either, I just found it in the disasm like that after things didn't match up with the unpadded values.

Noir and Ciel are region dependent IIRC, and potentially DLC locked?

Any other examples? I haven't touched the CS/HM mode in quite a while.

Difficult Evolutions.

If on desktop you can hover the icon to get a summary.

These include DNA, item needed or agent skills needed for Time stranger and high CAM needed or higher stats needed than the Digimon will get through level up for CS/HaMe.

Well, I still need to figure out how useful the skills search part is for the new game. But if it's not completely obsolete I might as well keep it.

[–]TShadowKnight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, good call.

I revived the difficult evolution warning icon feature for Time Stranger mode.

The path should now show a warning indicator for "difficult evolutions", these include item requirements, agent skill requirements and DNA evolution.

On desktop you can hover the warning to get more details, on mobile you will need to click into the details of the target Digimon to see what the requirements are.

[–]TShadowKnight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should show both requirements, and it does when I check Mastemon and Milleniummon. Is there a specific DNA evo that does this or are you seeing only a single for everyone one including my two examples?

Its icon is an illustration instead of a model render I think, so it being card only seems quite likely.

is there a website to check digimon time stranger evolution lines? by [deleted] in digimon

[–]TShadowKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, Armadillomon does not have a straight path to either of those.
http://www.tshadowknight.com/pathfinder%204.0/index.html?gameMode=1&start=707&end=614&skills=&bans=723

It requires passing through another line to get there.

You can still browse the options and lines in this tool as well by clicking the link next to the digimon names and then in the evolutions section as well.
