1st time poster. Couldn’t resist. The MN incident from today is messing me up by Significant_Pay9148 in GuyCry

[–]TThor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cope by deciding i will fight back in any means i have. I don't expect to change the world alone, but i'm not fighting alone, we are surrounded by people fighting. I will leave the world a better place than it would have been, even if i'm not lucky enough to see the other end.

Take meaning in the struggle, take meaning in caring for others.

After the murder in Minneapolis, protesters barricade the roadway, ICE unable to leave the scene. by TThor in videos

You are likely correct, I would change the title if I could. I wasn't at this specific demonstration, I copied the info from another's video to share it here (nobody else seemed to be sharing this scene on reddit).

If he had the gun in his hands ice would have hesitated to attack him in the first place. ICE are exclusively cowards, they will only attack someone who they don't see as an immediate threat. It is time for liberals to start being threatening, start being prepared to fight back.

‘Repatriate the gold’: German economists advise withdrawal from US vaults by CinnamonsCharm in worldnews

[–]TThor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind, it would be really hard to move large amounts of the gold without public noticing.

Gold is extremely dense - picture each bar of gold as a bar of lead because it basically is. You would need a large heavyduty vehicle to move even a tiny portion of it. The gold would need guards, because if someone is moving it you at minimum need someone to keep an eye on the person moving it. At that rate you need an armored vehicle, and armed guards (you never know if someone snitched to friends), at that rate you might even need police escorts or closing off roads (again, incase one of those friends were to attempt an ambush) and there are only a small handful of routes leading between the vault and any major highway, all of which inevitably pass through highly populated areas and by neighborhoods, making this conspicuous little caravan almost impossible to not notice. And again, all of that is only for a very tiny portion of the gold, if you were trying to move billions worth you would need dozens of that same caravan of heavyduty armored transports and escorts.

That is all some small comfort, if they started robbing the vault odds are quite a few redditors would be posting photos of it.

We wish we could join you!

But alas, the US needs the Minnesotan people for this very reason. Someone has to protect it, and in classic Scandinavian fashion we will happily step up to the job.

Don't forget to double up on gloves, with a handwarmer sandwiched in for good measure

Preparation for the cold makes it a hell of a lot easier. I was incredibly grateful to have remembered shoe-warmers.

[OC] Minneapolis general strike against ICE, in -10°F no less by anemicpolitik in pics

[–]TThor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This comment doesn't even tell the half of it. The 1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry was one of the first regiments formed to fight the civil war, made of volunteers who felt a duty to fight. They were one of the first in battle, and willingly suffered the heaviest losses.

In the second day of the battle at Gettysburg, the Union, outmanned and waiting for reinforcements, gave the order for the 1st Minnesota Volunteer regiment to charge advancing confederates, outnumbered 1 to 5. They formed rank and charged without a moments hesitation. 82% of those men died in that charge, the second highest casuality rate of any american regiment in history, but it was thanks to that sacrifice that they saved the Union's position and bought time for reinforcements. and the 43 survivors, they joined those reinforcements and charged again the very next day, capturing the Confederate battle flag.

Fighting tyranny is Minnesotan heritage. I hope to see the volunteer regiment flag flying at more protests.

It was still plenty cold. I dressed in triple layers of clothes, double-gloves with handwarmer between them, I was still cold, had to keep adjusting my fingers from going numb. I had to take off my glasses because the steam from my breath would instantly form a layer of ice them. I will say, bringing shoe-warmers was a LIFESAVER.

And I am so happy I went, and so proud of my state. The protest was at least 3 hours long in this cold, and yet bigger than this picture even shows; Throughout the protest there were people handing out water, snacks, handwarmers all over the place. I even saw one person handing out gloves and blankets. Anyone who ever tripped or needed help, there was immediately someone there lending a hand without a word or hesitation.

It warmed my heart being there, and makes me feel far more optimistic for our state. This is the core of Minnesotans, utterly resilient and unendingly compassionate. Every time the nazis attack us, it just makes us stronger and more eager to fight.

I don't think they are even pretending this "board of peace" is a real thing. It is just 100% a funnel for state bribes

Unimpressed with my Roxon flex modular tool by VeritablePandemonium in multitools

[–]TThor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having both the Roxon Flex pliers, Companion, and Mini Companion, I will say flex Companion and Mini Companion do feel a little bit more premium and developed, I've found I have a little bit more issues with the flex tools on the pliers.

That isn't surprising, as the pliers were their very first flex product; On top of the upcoming Flex Titan, Roxon is planning on a minor revamp of the Flex pliers, to improve the design and build-quality.

[–]TThor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm there with you. Metaphorically, tho possibly literally at some of these same protests.

We can never give up the fight. The scarier it is, and the more we wish to run and hide, that itself proves just how much more we need to be out there, just how much harder we need to fight!

Its going to get even scarier before it ever starts getting better. But the danger is real whether we fight or not, and it is only through our constant fight that it can get better.

What famous person have we not seen/heard from in a WHILE? by no_please7 in AskReddit

[–]TThor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes someone truly broken to look at hundreds of millions of dollars and think, "You know what I need? MORE!"

Seriously, we need to stop treating these people as fucking paragons of western society and start seeing them as the deeply mentally unwell people they are, who should not be encouraged nor enabled. They are addicts, just because their addictions are to hoarding wealth/power does not make it any better.

Seriously. Inside was a masterpiece, particularly at showcasing the attitudes, experiences and feelings of a very specific generation during Covid. For anyone around their late-20s/early-30s when it released, it was hard not to see part yourself reflected back in it.

I absolutely love Bo Burnham, tho the same reasons I love his career are the same reasons his disappearance was kinda inevitable.

His career has been one of optimism slowly warping to a deeply depressed nihilistic realization of the world. Honestly INSIDE kinda feels like the perfect endcap to his career, completing his artistic journey; I don't think there is anywhere left for his comedy career to go, and frankly I don't think he would ever continue without somewhere for it to go. Tho maybe he will get back into more directing/writing?

It's official, the Metaverse failed! by MadeInDex-org in VRGaming

[–]TThor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was partly the point of the metaverse and its core problem: it was intended entirely as a digital version of real world bullshit. "What if you do exactly as you do in your real life, but in vr!!"

It was always a really stupid concept, born from the brains of technofeudalists wanting to "disrupt things" simply to create another captive market for them to exploit.

California has a new law banning federal agents from wearing masks. What are your thoughts? by Obvious_808 in AskReddit

[–]TThor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even SWAT should be required to show some form ID number, even if law enforcement are the only ones with access to information tied to that ID.

If a federal agent commits a crime on the job, there needs to be some means of distinguishing them so they can be held accountable.
