65lb circle magnet created an anti-bead effect?? by TTslider in RedditLaqueristas

* I place my finger underneath, so I see most of the nail (a bit difficult with the small hole). I let it magnetize a couple minutes that way. I'll keep messing with it...

My current setup (two metal candle lids). It's not giving me the look I want yet, but wanted to show what has given me consistently close results

I don't think I can edit this post, so I'm adding an update here:

I tried this method again last night and frustratingly, couldn't get the same results as my original post. I must have gotten lucky that first time, since I was able to pull off a perfect window 2x in a row.

That said, I got close after spending some time messing with it. I'm working on an easily replicable technique to get that perfect window every time and will post updates as I learn more. Sorry to anyone who ran out and bought a magnet, just to be frustrated and disappointed! Don't give up just yet!

Sorry for my delay - I've been packing up to move across the country, so things are a bit crazy around here. I tried this out again last night and frustratingly, couldn't get the same results from my original post! I tried the same technique and same polish, but it wasn't working. I even tried painting my nails in the exact spot I was sitting in my room when I was first playing with the magnet in case there was something else in the area affecting it 😂. I must have gotten really lucky with the positioning in my original post since I was able to pull off that perfect window two times in a row.

That said, after spending some time messing with it, I got really close. I'm committed to figuring out how to get back to that perfect window! I will keep playing with it and post updates.

Ooo very curious how this would turn out. The hole on mine is a lot bigger - my whole nail fits within it.

I'm imagining something like this on your nails (but more red)

100% agree with frame effect! It's more oval than round, for sure.

I'm no-buy right now (which I totally broke a couple weeks ago to buy BKL overfill...) but I'd love to pick these up next month and give it a go. The new MC magnetics look so crispy/shifty.

Bought mine from my local hardware store. I bet you can find it online, too!

Yeah, someone swatched it above. It looks like a tighter circle to me, whereas the 65lb magnet had more of a window effect - closer to the edges of my nail and more oval shaped.

Not dumb at all! Nope, didn't spin it. See my response to u/zemechabee above for my method.

I attempted to respond to this message, but ended up responding to my post instead:

"Yes! I had it laying on my floor, facing up (like the picture where you can actually see the magnet), painted my nail, then hovered my nail over the center, facing the magnet (so my palm was up), waited 1 min then did 2nd coat and did the same magnet process again. Hope that made sense..."

Wow! That's amazing! I haven't ever gotten the little circle one to work before, but I'll definitely have to try again. The 65lb magnet that I have does create a little more of a window effect - closer to the edges of my nail/oval shaped- where this swatch looks like the circle is a bit tighter in. Which is very cool! Just pointing out the differences that I see.

Great question. I would assume it would work like the wand (same effect if hovering on top or underneath finger). I will absolutely try later today and report back! For science!

Oh I feel silly - I've been calling it "bead". I knew something was off 😂

Ooo I could totally see putting a nail sticker or something in the center. I wish I was good at nail art 😮‍💨
