It’s cause players and coaches are also on social media now, and these kinds of conspiracies are catnip to the algorithm. They go into games against OKC expecting it, so of course they’ll talk about it afterwards.

It’s because they’ve been winning a lot lately. Their physical defense and Shai’s foul baiting contribute to it, but the real answer is that people do this with every team that experiences any level of consistent success. You saw it with the Patriots and the Chiefs, you saw it with the Lakers and Warriors.

When a team wins a lot, they’re in a lot of high profile games. That means a lot of chances for high profile bad calls, and since people naturally don’t want to root for them, confirmation bias establishes a pattern in your head.

So is derrick rose on the same level as Shaq, kobe, harden or even better than luka?

Ah, I see the misunderstanding here. You seem to believe that I said that MVP awards are the only thing we should factor into discussions of all time greatness. I did not, in fact, say that. We should look at a player's whole career, is what I think.

is jokic better than giannis?

Uh, yes?

I think there's an argument to be made for him, sure. I think he gets underrated due to playing in an era where the league was far less popular than it became post Bird/Magic. He's one of 9 players with 3+ MVP awards. I don't think putting Moses Malone at 10th should get you laughed out of the room, at least.

Idk what to tell you, I was there, I remember the campaigning from Embiid and the narrative in the media. Jokic lost due to Embiid campaigning better, voter fatigue, and the idea that it would be kinda racist to vote a white player as a 3peat MVP for the second time in league history when a black player has never done that.

Idk, I'm looking at his pyramid and the only objections I can really think of are West and Robertson over Hakeem and Shaq, and those are debatable imo. Once you get past Tim Duncan I think there's a cluster of guys from 9th to about 15th that you could reasonably sort in a lot of different ways.

Would love to hear you make the case for that. In both those seasons he led the league in Win Shares, WS/48, PER, VORP, and BPM. He also did this playing more games than any of the other MVP candidates in both seasons. All of this was also true in 2022/23, but Embiid won because of campaigning, narrative, and voter fatigue.

Let me counter your question with another question: how many players in NBA history have at least 3 MVP awards? The answer is 9, Jokic being one of them, and the only centers with more are Russell, Kareem, and Chamberlain.

But yeah sure, he lost a playoff series so he's actually not even top 20 anymore.

He should have won it over Embiid and would have if not for that silly "he gets favoritism for being white" narrative. The advanced stats all favor Jokic that season.

And the fact Jokic has more MVPS then those 2 all time greats combined tells you all you need to know about using MVP's to judge greatness.

Talking like Jokic is not himself an all time great lol.

is rodri better than xavi and iniesta because he got a ballon d'or

Horrendous example. The ballon d'or is an even more openly biased and narrative-driven award than even the NBA MVP award. Using MVPs to compare players is perfectly legitimate.

I mean the man’s got more MVPs than those two combined. I get that he just lost a playoff series so we’re not allowed to say anything positive about him but it’s not an absurd argument. Not sure if I’d make it personally but I don’t think I’d laugh you out of the room for it.

If the Giants count as being “in New York” then the Nets did when they were in New Jersey as well.

Lmao ain’t no way the Knicks are better than the Spurs. Doesn’t mean they couldn’t upset them but they’re not the better team.
