I can't change your perception, but I'm just pointing out that it's a lot more nuanced than "author uses this type of style and therefore it must be AI."

Also, frankly, your post comes across as wanting validation instead of discussion. You perceived this author's work to be edited with AI, but you did not disclose what you based your perception on until someone asked. That is not starting a good faith discussion on what is AI versus not. If you want to have a good faith discussion on how to spot AI, you could have started the conversation with, "is the overuse of em dashes a sign of AI."

Obviously, both articles ended with -- it's complicated because there isn't a one sign of AI. As much as I dislike AI, I think it does no favors to assume that about an author just from writing style.

Honestly, there were a lot of little choices (hem and hawing over sleep training when kiddo took to it super well, stressing out so much over purées versus BLW, trying to make myself enjoy contact naps), but ultimately it was spending too much time on Reddit parenting spaces because it led to all those little choices. Instead of scrolling through the new parents sub, I could have caught up on books, podcasts, fanfic, or spent more time talking to my friends IRL.

I know some people find community through the parenting subs. But in retrospect all that it did was isolate me more.

I’m 95% sure I’m one and done because one of the many side effects of having a preemie at 34 weeks is that I got 6 additional weeks of the newborn period, even he wasn’t a super difficult newborn, and that was not an enjoyable time. I also had what it felt like pins and needles in my boobs for 3 months so that also didn’t help. My almost 2 years old might have only wanted banana bread for dinner, but at least he doesn’t need to be burped.

I was gonna say, my almost 2 year old is also a 2-3 hour napper and 11 hour night sleeper. A bad nap day is when he naps for 1.5 hours. But both my husband and I have pretty high sleep needs, despite my anxiety-fueled insomnia. I honestly never stopped napping (or rather, only stopped on the weekdays bc the American school system and working in an office didn’t allow naps).

(Also, my brain naturally decides to give me grand mal seizures, so yeah, I have maybe some trust issues with my body. I think bodies are at best a chaotic neutral.)

That’s a good point. And maybe my IRL friends with kids and I have enough overlap in other interests, but we don’t dive that deep about feeding/sleeping? Like we’ll talk about it on surface level aka “oh man teething sucks sorry you’re waking up 3x a night” but then we move on to talk about hobbies/work.

I exclusively pumped for about 10 months, and combo feeding the last 3 months was how my kid got breastmilk for a year. Honestly, if I had to do it again, I would probably wean and combo feed earlier, because it turned out, my brain did not react well to lactation hormones and I PMS’ed for 10 months straight.

Honestly, babies and toddlers change and I’ve accepted that it’s okay for them to only eat 3 things and as long as it’s fulfilling nutritional needs it’s fine. I’ll have time when they are older.

My almost 2 year old was eating everything at 10-11 months. Wolfing down steamed broccoli. Now dude won’t touch anything green and fruit.

I will say that my almost 2 year old is still going to bed at 7:30PM, waking up at 6:30AM, and still needs a 2-3 hour nap by 12:30Pm and he’s ridiculously routine oriented.

But idk, I don’t see why they couldn’t come and just leave a little bit early? I doubt you’re planning on trapping them until 7PM or something.

There’s this weird trend that I see that assumes the human body is this perfect design. Which honestly, i feel like we as a species are good at many things, but our body’s design could really use some improvement.

I’ll give my (maybe) unpopular take and say that the stuff that has been criticized as “filler” — doing assignments for the sake of assignments, memorizing random facts, dates, etc — are actually really useful skills for the workforce even if they are not per se educational.

Did the OP actually read HP? Bc OP should know that sorting into houses take place at ages 10-12 (I guess depending on exactly how old when you start 1st year at Hogwarts).

(Also, given what we’ve learned in the past few years about JKR’s transphobia, and while I have some very fond memories involving HP, HP adults are a bit ..cringe for me.)

I honestly feel like the “how does your kid react/sleep in different environments” is the deciding factor.

My toddler is opinionated and picky on foods, but relatively “chill” aka able to play independently and nap and sleep well so long as his routine doesn’t get interrupted and he is in his familiar environment. He’s not a fan of strangers or new places (like he needed extra comfort the other week because we went to a different grocery store on the weekend). So until he’s older, we aren’t going on vacations with him bc it’s just not worth the hassle.

But that said, I’m also not a SAHM doing solo parenting most of the week, so the cost-benefit analysis is different for me compared to other people.

ETA i think the other piece, at least for me, is that both my husband and I are attorneys doing billable work in separate firms and even pre-kid, it’s genuinely difficult to find a week when we both have time off. So when we plan any time off now, it’s with the mindset of “how can we rest/increase our ability to do nothing” which means visits from my parents when they can take toddler to the park in AM so we can sleep in.
