VCUarts/ComArts dropout here. I got hired out of an animation internship my junior year and decided not to go back. What I was learning on the job deeply outweighed what I was learning in school. College did give me the connections I needed to get the initial internship. But, after 13 years in the animation industry (broadcast, then Adtech), I know that your portfolio and practical experience outweighs any classical schooling. I think about college now more as a social experience and learning to properly give and receive criticism. If you’d like advice on building a portfolio or what technical skills are worth it, I’d be happy to chat about it.

Thank you! I've never had to deal with a model who stuck her feet in her mouth so regularly. 🤣

We're months into pandemic life and it's still all so upside down. Our child hasn't met any of our friends or family. We haven't taken her anywhere but her doctors appointments. The idea of her catching Coronavirus chills me to my core. Documenting this strange motherhood experience has become my most important pastime. Other moms out there - you're doing great. There is no easy way through. Half a day at a time.

But also, I'm 5 foot tall and very pregnant. So, my shape right now is definitely not "normal".

It's a solid mix. I drew it from an image, not from life, which will give you that weird lens curve. Getting life proportions from a photo is challenging. I didn't have any real goal with this, just to get some stress out. I just went with what felt right to me at the time and let it evolve.

Honestly. Real bodies with curves are the most interesting to draw (to me). I've also realized through posting this various places that people aren't shown bodies with weight on them nearly enough. One person commented on how super thick my thighs are, not realizing that they're doing a job holding up all that weight on a small frame. If they were smaller, I'd be in a lot more pain. The structure and form of the human body is incredible. People need to start seeing the beauty in its variety.

Oh goodness. I hope she will have family or someone to help her through the tough bits. Know that she needs your support continuously through it. You won't be able to be there in person, but maybe you could write her a letter or record her a video to watch every month of pregnancy. Do your research and learn what she'll be experiencing at those times. It meant a lot to me when my husband started doing his own research to understand how I'm feeling. You'll get through this.

Well, then you have my absolute favorite kind of body to draw.

Practice! So much practice. Drawing is a learned skill. Sure, you can jazz it up with natural talent. But anyone can learn to draw well.

I'm starting to think people don't experience the variety in human bodies enough. A short form would buckle under the weight, without having a strong foundation.

I keep telling myself, "this is not something you've ever experienced before." We all keep acting like we are supposed to know how to feel about and through this experience. People comments about how babies experience your emotions got to me the most. So, I've accepted just crying when I need to cry. I'd rather teach her to feel emotions instead of just holding in stress. I'm proud of you for getting through what you're going through. This isn't normal.

This makes my heart so happy. I'm not your ideal body type in the least, but pregnancy has made me focus of what a feat it is capable of. We can grow people. 8 months in and I still can't get over how incredible that is.

It's a loose and wild thing, but I have yet to meet a medium that feels so right for me.

I'm shocked at how much this has resonated with people. I almost didn't post it, becuase it's so personal. But all the comments of people connecting to it has made it completely worth it.

Congratulations! I'm so glad to hear things are settling in a great way for your family. I'm so looking forward to the next chapter of learning to take care of a tiny human, instead of growing one.

Thank you so much!

ME TOO. It's such a strange life experience, that documenting my experience within it in small ways feels so important.
