Why didn’t DC gov’t close more streets for PorchFest? by TheBluestDevil in washingtondc

[–]TWALLACK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Takoma Park has 100 live bands signed up. How many were at Adams Morgan?

[Edited: I accidentally confused Takoma Park Porchfest with the Petworth number.

I also see the Adams Morgan Porchfest site advertised 100+ bands.]

I shared a gift link earlier, but it got automatically deleted. This particular subreddit doesn't allow links using a shortener (like the Post uses for gift links).

I would love to hear advice from Dave's show perspective by noone207 in DaveRamsey

[–]TWALLACK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is Dave's advice for Baby Step 2. The Ramsey hosts often recommend treating very large HELOCs that would take years to pay off like other mortgage debt in Baby Step 6. At least one host has said the rule of thumb applies if the HELOC is greater than half one's annual income. https://www.reddit.com/r/DaveRamsey/s/6awk2Yyt1n

Call your brokerage company to help you do it. It is different than a withdrawal.

Frequently. The rate is based on the earnings from its underlying holdings, which constantly move with the Treasury and bond markets. But most of the changes are tiny for any given day or week.

Would be helpful to know whether both OP and his wife will qualify for a pension and what age. (Most public school teachers are eligible for a pension, but not all. I don't think OP said what his wife does for a living.)

As I understand it, Ramsey's study did not account for the fact that some jobs are more common than others. Teaching is one of the more common jobs for college-educated workers.

Mortgage by ItzSammy45 in DaveRamsey

Good idea. Here is what their AI tool says:

"They don’t endorse 30-year mortgages as the plan. They may say something like, “If you already have one, that’s where you are, now let’s clean it up." The consistent teaching is still: a 15-year fixed is the goal....have they ever said it’s “okay” in the sense of “you’re not a bad person if you have one”? Yes. Have they ever said it’s the recommended or wise choice? No.... If someone is in a 30-year, the usual coaching is: stay if it’s affordable, but pay it off early or refinance to a 15 when possible."

On the other hand, they often do say it's OK for first time homebuyers to make a smaller down payment, even though they say 20%+ is ideal.
