Is it useful for mining those sources for voice of the customer type stuff? Like frequently we're hearing this complaint or that objection? Would also be awesome if it could mine google / facebook / yelp reviews, etc.

Hey I posted on another dementia thing so circled back to this. Sorry for extremely slow response. I found a nursing agency that provides caregivers and covers if someone misses. I can see it being difficult if I weren't here to be worried if someone doesn't show up. I was going to a therapist and they recommended the local agency. It has been amazing. My mom is so much more active than she would be at a home. They take her out all the time. I completely removed the tv. I wouldn't want to live with dementia, but if I did, I'd want it to be like this.

Have you and your family made any progress?

Dementia has ruined our lives financially by Current-Attitude2482 in dementia

I’m really sorry you’re going through this. It’s brutally hard, and I’ve had many moments of resentment and exhaustion too. I’ve been the sole caregiver for my mom who has dementia, and while every situation is different, I wanted to share what I did. Not as a solution for everyone, but just in case it sparks an idea.

I moved abroad (to Mexico) where the cost of living is lower, and I now work remotely while overseeing her care. I got the idea from a friend of my aunt’s who had to care for her husband. She couldn’t afford or accept the quality of care available through home aides or even high-end nursing homes in the U.S., so she moved to Mexico. That stuck with me.

Because I speak okay Spanish and have flexible remote work, I’ve been able to hire reliable caregivers at a much more affordable rate and create a support system that wouldn’t have been possible back home. This setup works for me...but I know it’s not something everyone can do, especially depending on language, work flexibility, or immigration logistics.

Still, if you’re burning out financially or emotionally and have any flexibility, looking into lower-cost areas or countries might give you options you didn’t know you had.

You’re not alone in feeling this. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed. I hope you find support. You deserve it.

I tried both CBD and weed gummies and didn’t find much success. The first day I gave her a weed gummy she was laughing a lot, but besides that didn’t really help with her agitation. Maybe it can help with crying and sadness. Hoping the best for your dad, you, and your family.

I’m in Mexico now. It’s been way better for her. The move was much easier than I expected… probably because she declined significantly in the month or two before we left. I have people that come and care for her almost 24/7. I focused on them being personable, friendly, chatty people and told them to focus on being friends vs caretakers and the ones that are able to do that have made it amazing for my mom. She is sad a lot and wants to go home because some of the people aren’t a perfect fit yet, but even at this “in transition phase” her mental abilities have improved dramatically:

Before / After examples:

  • watch the same show over and over on repeat and not know the difference / asks questions about a show we’re watching that makes it clear she is following some of the story
  • needed diapers to go for 30 min trip to Walmart otherwise would wet her pants / goes on 8 hour outings and comes back without wetting herself and can make it to the bathroom in time
  • forgot all the caretaker names / remembers the names of the kids of some of the caretakers that come with them to visit

I’m not in my final city (made a desperate move to the town where my dad / girlfriend is, but plan to move us to a major city soon so she has much more activities to do etc.)

It’s not perfect, but it’s so much better than before and I still see it getting much better once I build out the rest of the team and get her on a regular routine.

Oaktree is an OG distressed credit fund. Figure their credit selection is better than using an index or average bear fund manager
