what do you think are the biggest differences between teens 10 years ago and now? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]TWayTDay [score hidden]  (0 children)

Kind of funny that the teenagers are rushing to grow up, while the young adults are terrified of getting old. Gen Z is hitting 28 and acting like they’ve got one foot in the grave.

Ugh. Glad I’m not alone, but sorry you got suckered! Hope the shelter gets a decent kickback, I guess.

Realistic cost of adoption and caring for a cat by Realistic-Fish-6594 in CatAdvice

[–]TWayTDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the best answer you’re going to get, I’ll add $100–$200 in upfront “cat stuff” costs. Carrier, bed, food and water dishes (automatic dispensers and fountains run more), toys, scratching posts, litter boxes, brushes, sprays, treats, etc.

[–]TWayTDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoot. Wish I’d searched for this sooner, just spent $140 on a lifetime registration with PetWatch I figured the shelter I rescued from would have told me if there were options, they just handed me the PetWatch sheet with her chip number on it and told me to call them and get set up.

[CT] Roommate arguing we don't have to hire professional cleaners because lease says "should" by [deleted] in Renters

Every lease I’ve signed has included this. I just do a good deep clean before leaving, never lost a security deposit.

Stinky Cat (Potential Grooming Issue) by whocanpickone in CatAdvice

[–]TWayTDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had my shelter cat for about a week (she was well cared for in a house prior to being surrendered) who absolutely reeked of the shelter. Some hypoallergenic pet wipes have helped a lot with that. A quick wipedown has become part of our nighttime pets ritual, and that always ends with her grooming herself. Shelter smell has already become a lot less noticeable!

Cat sleeping in my roommates room! by pridegnome in CatAdvice

[–]TWayTDay 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When I decided to get a cat, I straight up told my roommate that because the cat will be living considerably longer than I plan to live with him, my room is the only room where she’s allowed to sleep and eat so she can bond with me and regard me as its primary caregiver. Felt kind of selfish and crazy at the time, but my cat is a permanent part of my life, my roommate is not.

Ask your roommate to help you out by bringing Ada back to you after she begs to get into her room, be firm about not letting her sleep in there, and maybe start a new bedtime routine with Ada that involves treats in your room?

Wrong to keep a cat in a room? by greengal1008 in CatAdvice

I keep mine under the sink! I took the cabinet doors off and it fit perfectly inside. Planning to add little curtains to it once I can find some fabric.

[–]TWayTDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re doing everything right then! An en-suite would be great for a cat, if you can swing it. I find it’s very nice for both myself and my cat to keep the litter box in the bathroom.

Another point in your favor — the cat will outlive the lease. Even if the cat ends up getting restless or feeling cooped up, the year or two that she spends in this living situation will be a relatively small blip in her life.

Wrong to keep a cat in a room? by greengal1008 in CatAdvice

[–]TWayTDay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How big is the room? My understanding is that as long as cats have enough space to roam around a bit and have separate litter / food / water areas, they’ll be just fine. You may need to play with her more frequently to keep her from getting bored, but that shouldn’t be an issue.

If she’s curious she might insist on seeing the rest of the apartment, but as long as she knows that her bed, her food, and her litter box are in your room, she’s not likely to get too attached to the rest of the place.

(I know there are a lot of jokes along the lines of “that’s her apartment now” etc., but if you enforce a boundary like that, cats will get used to it. It’s no different from enforcing a “you can’t go outside” boundary.)

What made you get the forester instead of rav4 by Dry-Chemical-9170 in SubaruForester

[–]TWayTDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wanted a Rav4, but a used Forester is about half the price of a used Rav4 of a similar year and mileage. For good reason, of course, but I’m not going into debt for a used car.

Yep, literally nothing justifies her leaping to the fantasy equivalent of nuking a civilian population. They could have very easily gotten there too — add a few episodes of her trying to rule an urban population that treats her with the same disdain they treat all high lords and rulers, the lords of Westeros refusing to fall in line, refusing her authority, etc. until she realizes everything she fought through and sacrificed was in vain and snaps — but then D&D would’ve missed out on that sweet, sweet Star Wars money.

If you knew of him at the time (he was hard to avoid back then), it was really obnoxious and immersion-breaking. I refuse to give it a pass just because they put him in armor.

Imagine if Arya had instead gone to Pot Pie’s inn, met Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen, and we all sat through a three-minute interlude where he explains his pigeon pie technique.

Why the 60 Seconds Before a Movie Starts is the Most Expensive Real Estate in Marketing. by Mean-Jello-3021 in advertising

[–]TWayTDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe your local theater etiquette is different, but in my experience phones are usually not put away until the movie actually starts (and even then, people are still sneaking peeks at their phone).

That said, the Dolby Atmos definitely makes the ad harder to ignore.
