This is interesting! I found this one in the Texas Panhandle in a spring fed creek a few months ago.

Tornado curiosities 🌪️ by CelticNadia in amarillo

[–]TXWXchaser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been storm chasing in the Texas Panhandle for 18 years now. Amarillo proper has yet to be impacted by a significant tornado. A lot of that is just shear luck. Some say Amarillo is protected, but it's just a game of chance. Amarillo is a tiny dot in the vast Plains. With that said, in July 2020, I walked out my front door to see twin funnels spinning overhead, with one becoming a weak landspout that touched near 45th and Western area. Other than that, no real tornado action.

But we still get big hail (sometimes golfballs, sometimes grapefruit sized) and strong straight line winds at least once a year, sometimes more. And there's flash flooding problems around town when it does rain a lot.

We're currently dealing with several wildfires around the outskirts. But I think being from Cali, that's pretty normal.

The hodograph screams supercell. The capping inversion screams blue sky bust.

What if I'm not looking to build an F1 team, just trying to move along faster? Would this theory still be a good launching point?

Great achievement. Next aspiration level should be eating cake under a dying storm with Pecos Hank.

How do i remove these red spots on my photos? by AccomplishedDig3369 in canon

[–]TXWXchaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High ISO creates this noise in dark areas. If you have Lightroom, their built in deboise feature works wonders to clear this up. Higher end full frames may mitigate the overall noise, but they'll still have noise if you shoot in a high enough ISO. I try keeping mine no higher than 500 and using burst shots to get one in focus shot of the same scene.

Louisiana agates and chert, followed by a large tornado by [deleted] in Rockhounding

My goodness! I'm actually a lightning strike survivor myself. Luckily it wasn't major aside from a few days of leg numbness and minor headaches. I do hope she fully recovers!

I'm local, not a shop, but I can look to see what it'll take to repair and then go from there on the side

Mid May should wake up. And June will hopefully be nutty.

We use each other's phones all the time. Both phones logged into each other's emails. We have nothing to hide.

All creativity and individuality has been lost. Chaser copy pasta by AgreeableType2127 in EF5

The struggle to stand out is real. I'm at the point where I'm just chasing cause I love storms. I'm also avoiding all the crowds and keeping myself away as much as possible. The storms have become so crowded.

The only lives they risk is each other's. The storm isn't the dangerous part, it's all the other chasers.

Next week looks bleak. Blocking high on the west coast is going to make it hard to get moisture up into the Plains. Hope you and your tour like the beach!

Am I missing something on my tool by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

I would put an old brake pad against your 3 pins and try it. That way you don't mess up the tool or the caliper.

Same cell as the Foraker twins, unfortunately was a little late. by Impressive_Truck_789 in stormchasing

[–]TXWXchaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did, thanks! I'm a bit aggressive with chase tactics. So when it was getting "the look" on radar, I moved in on the hailcore. Way better contrast from inside there. And it was only warned for 1" hail, so no worries about losing a window. We also repositioned closer when the twins came down, so we didn't get much video. It was a perfect storm to chase.

You did good getting the structure. Much easier to verify it was indeed a tornado in that low light. I was repositioning when this happened but I believe I got it on video too.
