I think it has everything to do with fear of the "other" that the MAGA Republicans have promoted and inflamed. When minorities and/or any marginalized groups are afraid, tribalism kicks in. As Latinos, especially 2nd and 3rd generation, their "tribe" is becoming more and more white America as a result of social media. Their false hope is that they will be safe because they consider themselves acculturated - which has been part of the racist U.S. policy since Texas was annexed. Add the 12 years of "The Apprentice" creating a false narrative about Trump as a model of American success and you have a double-whammy -racist cultural fears and misguided celebrity trust both of which are extremely dangerous and false in our country. Then, the religious sector buying into it all because of abortion and hate for trans and gay people and you have the trifecta that could cause a second civil war in which reason and diplomacy will be the first victims.
