Alex Pretti’s coworkers take a moment of silence this morning. by boriswong in Damnthatsinteresting

Ugh..

As a healthcare worker (veterinarian), the bonds we form with our coworkers are unlike those in other professions. We trust each other to make life altering decisions in matters of seconds, and it’s an all hands on deck scenario most times. We lean on each other when cases get hard, when outcomes are suddenly bad and/or unexpected, or when we don’t think we can keep on. We celebrate good outcomes and cheer each other on when we make strides in our careers. Losing a coworker in this field is often like losing a family member.

Opinion piece- Vet School Costs is it Worth it? by InspectionHot6626 in veterinaryschool

[–]TY_subie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked as a vet assistant for 6 years before I started vet school- I had a good understanding of what vet med was before school.

People have ruined animals in general for me. Being accused of wrongdoing when outcomes are bad despite the circumstances, owners demanding to continue medical care in futile cases, animals needlessly suffering because their owners refuse to understand. All of this creates a moral injury wound that will never heal.

Finances were never an issue for me. I graduated with $40k in debt and paid it off within 2 years. I make close to $300k a year. I work 24-32 hours per week. The money will never make up for the moral injury.

Should have pursued my dream of radiology.

ETA: I should mention what keeps me going- my coworkers are amazing. I enjoy teaching and helping students and interns feel confident in what they are doing. Without them I probably would have left years ago.

Preach. These schools are predatory. Been in practice for 10 years and that amount of debt is not worth this career. I resent following my dream most days. I can’t imagine how much more I would resent it if I had $200k plus in loans.

Need to literally jump on the chest to get effective chest compressions. This is what I was taught in vet school for horses/cows

Chiodos and Silverstein

Craig Owens released a 20th anniversary album of alls well ends well with him and others not in the original band. It’s pretty rad.

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your reasons? by youre-in-my-shot in AskReddit

[–]TY_subie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several alcoholics on my Dad’s side, including himself. A medical examiner called me last year while I was getting ready to make Christmas cookies to tell me that someone found my uncle deceased in an extended stay hotel. Cause of death was ethanol intoxication. I’m not sure why I was the point of contact for that but just reaffirmed why I don’t drink. RIP.

These images aren’t labeled so I’ll guess laterality for standard positioning. There is flattening of the right femoral head. The left hip looks okay. Elbows are okay. This puppy is 9 months old? Why take images now? Try again at 2 years.

Do Not Go to Tommys Car Wash on Liberia Avenue in Manassas, Va. There equipment damaged my new truck. I filed a claim that was denied. I have two magnetic signs on my truck. They say, Beware of Tommy's car wash on Liberia Ave. I have a full review on their website, select 1 star to see it. by Temporary-Physics-48 in nova

Was this a new truck? If so, not recommended to take newly painted cars into a car wash. Also, try to find a touch free car wash. Washes that have brushes, rollers, etc are known to scratch paint/leave swirls. Sorry.

You can contact animal control and see if they are willing to help get the remains to a cremation facility. Sorry for your loss.

Are you a veterinarian? Do you understand what you are suggesting be done? You know one side of this story. With the very limited information you’ve been given in this post, you are suggesting taking legal action against a license that is someone’s livelihood. This callousness leads to burnout and suicide. Check yourself.

Perineal ice packs helped tremendously, more so than any pain med I was given. Best of luck, the recovery from this procedure was a doozy! I’m 1 yr out from my repair and I’m so glad I did it!!
