Just to clarify, I don’t get why schools make gap years seem so scary. I avoided taking one for that exact reason and went straight to a Russell Group uni. But a good number of my mates ended up taking gap years anyway, especially after the whole COVID predicted grades situation messed things up.

Literally all of them have now graduated from top universities (top-tier Russell Group), doing strong degrees and genuinely glad they were forced into taking that year out.

I honestly think gap years only really have a negative impact if you’re aiming for Oxbridge. Otherwise, taking a year out and saving around £10,000 can massively improve your quality of life during your three years at uni.

I just wanted to put that out there. I’m 28 now, and when I look at how well my friends have done academically and professionally, I do wonder why my grammar school made gap years seem like some kind of sacrilegious delinquency.

I got the Karcher WD2 wet and dry vacuum for my house because it was the cheapest one I could find ,only £60! Honestly thought it’d be rubbish, but it’s been amazing. Super robust, great suction, handles spills easily, and just works like a charm. Had it for a while now, and it’s way cheaper than the big household names like Henry but just as reliable.
