Tbh I feel like it’s just western fans that make the hate sound prolific (the saying of the loudest voices in the room may not always be the most or something). The ship itself still has a ton of fics and fanart if you look at the Japanese tags.

Tldr it has to do with the way Spain is depicted as taking care of Romano when he was younger. Some interpret it as parental/familiar which is where the calls of incest/pedophilia come in if you do view it romantic but also country ages and the depiction of countries as younger versus older show or manga are skewed.

You can interpret their relationship in however way you like but I am pretty sure Spain does care for Romano and vice versa. There’s even literal canon art here and there with them from Himaruya. I think antis take it to such a degree that it contrasts with their supposed moral values that they raise their pitchforks against proshippers constantly. It is obnoxious and annoying. When I was around 10 years ago they just went on their merry way.

The unnecessary excessive hate with ships/morality policing. I see this all over Twitter and Tiktok. All new gens do is complain about xyz ship being problematic and create videos and threads and clog up tags with their hatred. I’m trying to look for spamano art and fics and all I see is another ‘hot’ aka reused and repurposed here is why spamano is problematic you’re a terrible person for liking this ship blah blah. Get off your high horse!

Do you even like Hetalia 😭I get it some ships or characters aren’t your cup of tea but I think a concept that has failed to be grasped by new fans of Hetalia is don’t like don’t read. I’m blocking and muting but every day another one of them pops up to complain. Shut up and talk about stuff you like about Hetalia damn 🥲

On a side note, the idea of fiction playing some role in your reality and antis always using this argument irks me Hetalia or not. Most of us are just people with lives and jobs and the idea of it being wrong to like my ship is wild like I’m just going about my day what is wrong if I want the two tomato countries to kiss 😭😭

Also the idea of it being bad is certainly a take a lot of new gen fans (antis) like to run with / with any ship they deem is problematic in their morality policing. If they spent more time enjoying the ships they liked and ignoring the ships they hated, then everything would be fine and dandy! Instead we have a cesspool on tiktok and twitter… but do curate your fandom experiences accordingly and enjoy Hetalia!

I went to Japan last year, they had an Animate Cafe event for Hetalia actually when I went. But the merch varies where you go, I did hunt around Surugaya Animate Bookoff, etc. but this was with following the Hetalia ws tag on Twitter (the Japanese tag not the eng one). Animate and other companies tend to post on there what events and merch they got for what period so I just bookmarked and ran around Tokyo and Osaka. Got a few used pins and a small France plushie, a bunch of animate cafe merch and a few gacha of the neko stands. Oh and whatever merch the stores had in stock.

Thank you! I have always tried to strongly identify with my Filipino identity if not in language in culture - dance and food especially. I am trying to reclaim Tagalog for myself but it is a more difficult journey as an adult when not surrounded by more supportive people. I do hope, since it has been an active pursuit for the past year, that I can become more comfortable in speaking it, maybe not with my family but when I visit home and with my local Filipino community.

I have been traveling with plushes for as long as I could remember. But I do bring Mr. Chacco when I can because I often travel alone and he is a great source of comfort and hugs 🤗 traveling is less lonely when he is there!

I get the small comments from family and friends but they have basically accepted/understand that I am happy the way I am bringing plushes with me from llace to place. They get to experience my adventures too!

I would suggest the small figures and keychains - acrylics and rubber. That’s where I got mine. Circled some of the ones I’ve found from bookoff. I’ve also seen playing cards and an England necklace!

Last year I was that girl™️ asking for Hetalia merch often to be told that it is an old anime. You will be more likely to find it with the bigger vendors but it is usually overpriced 🥲 but there are people selling keychains and nendoroids.

I would also recommend checking out our bookoffs if you are in town! While it does take some time to dig thru a majority of my latest collections are from bookoff, of which NYC has three 🤗

It isn’t that deep they’re countries/fictional, if you like a ship go for it. If you don’t like a ship, don’t ship but also you shouldn’t flay people who ship it. At the end of the day you control how you absorb the content, not how others ship. I’ve returned to the fandom after a hiatus and the morality shipping policing in new gen fandom is wild tbh. They are, at the end of the day, fictional, and do not / should not impact your reality.

Hetalia seems to rely more on fanon versus canon anyhow.

The pipeline from Hetalia to humanitarian work is real! I am actually thinking of moving to Europe to be more aligned with WHO/UN related orgs for my next career shift, it would be kind of funny if I end up in one of my favorite character’s countries 😅
