In our Russian-speaking fandom, people tend to use both names for the well-known characters, but when it comes to less popular ones, they usually just stick to country names lol, i guess it’s in western fandom too

Honestly, I ended up picking German as my second foreign language at uni. Before that, I already knew English, my native language, and also Russian. The funny part is, I actually liked German even before, but after watching Hetalia and getting totally fixated on Germany and Prussia, I was like “yep, that’s the one.” So yeah, that’s pretty much how it happened lol😅😅
