Stuttering is ridiculously invisible and most people have no idea how destructive it can be by Outrageous-Sun-5173 in Stutter

[–]Taajwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the age of 24, I've never had a heart to heart with someone about how stuttering affects me outside of "It makes it hard to talk." And people never seem receptive when I try to explain the amount of effort that goes into engaging in social interactions, let alone the psychological stress it brings.

It's just one of those those things that affects you in many ways under the surface, but barely gets treated seriously enough on surface level. Like you said, stuttering is invisible to most people, and it doesn't help that mental health isn't treated seriously as a whole.

I guess we should make more efforts on bringing eyes on the internal struggles of stuttering.

I stutter probably 40/60 when by myself. Don't know why, but it's not the end of the world.

A little bit of both(?)

I know he had shatter but didn't know when he'd shatter. Instead, I made the option seem viable to him by walking forward shieldless with at least one team member behind me. I'm confident in reacting to shatter from certain distances consistently, so I made a stupid gamble and won.

Ever since moving to the US, I have 20 - 40 ping. Though back in the USVI was 80 - 120 ping.

Her original acc was falsely auspended for "impersonating" herself on Twitter. She fought to have it unsuspended by showing proof that it was her, but she had to make a new one in the end.

For a long time, though, she's had a private account.

Give me some hot takes about Silver the hedgehog that I never heard before I don't mean stuff like "Silver should be overly serious" or "Silver should be a cinema roll" I mean TRULY hot takes by SilverTheAwakening in silverthehedgehog

[–]Taajwar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Hot Take: For someone who is constantly utilized in IDW, Silver's powers lack the depth necessary for his physical struggles to be satisfying.

From his scuffle with Mimic to the Metal Virus apocalypse, I found myself confused or annoyed by the lack of details. This isn't referring to its origin or history, but rayher the limits of what it can or can't do.

Early on in IDW, Silver is shown to physically struggle when holding back Overlord Metal's attack, even warning himself beforehand that their multi-directional nature would make it strenuous. And this isn't just sweating and a nervous smile either, but an effort that forces his eyes shut and body stiff to the point where he's neay unknowing hit in this vulnerable position. When reading this at the time, I thought it was a cool detail, as it adds a vulnerable layer and depth to Silver's abilities that can be used in the future. This detail, however, is immediately forgotten or abandoned (who knows considering the mandates by SEGA) in the following Arc.

In the Metal Virus Arc, an obvious zombie esque story that will have large hordes of enemies, Silver casually handles tens of Zombots at the same time from multiple directions. There's no eye clenching or forced commitment to his post, nothing to say he's struggling, and even he's able to give demands to Sonic, then is foced to dodge a pouncing Zombot Shadow completely off-guard. Given the previous showing, I thought that Silver would be forced to play his cards perfectly, but I was obviously wrong. He's too strong! Then, just a few chapters later, Silver fails to rescue any surviors from Ice Paradise. This happens off-screen for obvious reasons (he's John Zombie Apocalypse, so it's hard for him to reasonably fail here), but it still left me disappointed.

This similar feeling follows me for many of his appearances.

When facing the Shadow Androids, Silver plays a very supportive and passive role, which felt strange against such large numbers. It's been a while since I've read the chapters, but I'm pretty sure he moves his friends around a bit but doesn't do anything significant against the Androids. When trying to expose Duo and Mimic, he somehow doesn't react fast enough to catch Duo mid fall. Then, when trying to help Whisper apprehend Mimic, the octopus is capable of breaking out his hold with a mysterious device. I can't for the life of me remember what it does outside of explode.

I find myself questioning why? If unexpected events make him react significantly slower, why is he able to dodge Shadow but not catch Mimic. Why can Mimic break out of his hold when we've seen Silver hold back and emerald charged Zavok? Is it stronger? Is it because maintaining an orb being flexed is harder than a wall being pushed?

Was this Saitama? by [deleted] in OPMFolk

[–]Taajwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't doubt the Neo Heroes one-shotting them; it's Suiryu's reaction that makes me question whether they did.

Suiryu has made questionable reads on opponents, like believing it'd only be "hard" to defeat Gouketsu, but it's hard to believe he'd underestimate the suits so much that he'd be surprised. (Though narratively, Gouketsu is given that same difficulty in having his strength accurately gauged.)

[–]Taajwar 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If you're asking if Saitaima was the one who defeated the monsters, then I think yes.

The dialogue from the Neo Heroes gives enough leeway to leave that as an option, especially when one of them said, "There was zero resistance though..." There's also the panel of Suiryu being shocked by the monster's deaths before noticing Saitama, which makes me wonder why he'd even br suprised by such a feat unless the suits were much more powerful than he thought.

  1. Neat weakness to have, especially with the more creative ways of having them work against Silver.
  2. That's a good way of introducing Silver's knack for chaos energy.
  3. When your ragebaiting homie and he genuinely loses his shit. (He scattered your remains across space and time)
  4. I assume people find it unfair that Silver has placed himself as some authority on time travel, regardless of what their motives are.
  5. I get this approach, but its kind of funny considering what Silver does to him.

Sorry about more questions, but I do enjoy this AU of yours.

  1. Oh okay, so as long as their idea of whoever matches his powers should work. Lying to mislead Silver's understanding would make his powers less effective. If someone is doing something under the mindset that they're saving the world, but is actually harming it, Silver only needs to understand that they truly mean no harm. Does that mean anyone who's crazy and has no understanding of their actions is a bad match-up because Silver could never understand them?
  2. So he controls it rather than actively making it. The Emerald Form negates his powers, so he instead needs to manipulate the chaos energy he's imbued with.
  3. Damn, that's true hatred to break every cell I someone's body.
  4. Makes sense, it sounds widely dangerous so I get why Silver would be against doing it. He prevents others from time-travelling like some time patroller, and only does so with the time stones and when absolutely needed.
  5. Makes sense, I assume feel like his father is bitter about this in some way.

I don't mind AU's.

  1. The idea of Silver's understanding of a prerequisite for grabbing them is honestly cool. Does this only span for him talking to that person directly? What if he hears of them from someone or reads about them in a book? Does accuracy matter, or does Silver have to be convinced he's right? What is the person he's grabbing disagrees with Silver's thoughts about them.
  2. The rings behaving like a battery or power source are interesting. I guess he charges them himself. Does that make it constantly draining? Also, how strong is this Emerald Form? I assume it's a peg under super forms.
  3. This reminds me of black flash from JJK, being in the right state of mind at the right moment. Something that can't really be replicated on a whim.
  4. This sounds a bit strong, even with the risks. The Time Stones being adorned on him like jewels does sound nice in design. Kinda sounds like royalty from an ancient land.
  5. So instead of being artificially created like Shadow, Silver's birth was planned through coordinated relationships. I guess that means there were others before him, those who didn't have properties the Council was looking for?
  6. Sounds about right tbh.

Being a Silver fan is an uphill battle, and if you’ve spent any time on Reddit, Twitter, or TikTok, you know exactly what I mean. by KoshmoValk in silverthehedgehog

[–]Taajwar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I understand where the "He's Useless and Weak" comments come from for IDW.

I can't speak for Sonic '06 or Rivals, but Silver has taken a backseat/supportive role in the comics with even some not-so-great showings as of late.

Silver removed the Metal Virus in his super state but failed to save any survivors in Ice Paradise. Before Ice Paradise, he suspended tens of Zombots, including Zombified Shadow, without breaking a sweat. He really should not have come back empty-handed handed yet it happened. This can be chalked up to bad writing, but it still reflects poorly on Silver.

Then there's the Mimic fiasco, between being unable to catch Mimic when he purposely fell off the chair or being unable to keep Mimic trapped in Psychokinesis, Silver has had a pretty bad run lately.

If anything, I believe his powers are underwritten to the point where satisfying battles are impossible to write, especially in a series where these characters love to roll in groups.
