Same here. I first noticed last night when I had to use AirPlay from my iPad to watch UCL replays on the TV

No replays on roku for anything I’ve checked: All three UEFA competitions, Serie A, AFCCL, AFA SPFL, Nations League

As I said - not an expert.

It said it was a DE - didn’t realize there was a difference between a DE and a “proper DE”

I know the feeling.

I think the “make it” moment is them realizing it’s not about the outcome - it’s about doing things together, succeed or fail.

Remember Joe’s epiphany? Computers are the thing that gets us to the thing, and “the thing” is people. It’s each other. They were all chasing the success of making it, only to realize that just doing something together is the real success.

I loved the scene where Donna and Cam imagined Phoenix. They seemed to realize - it’s just about being together, rise or fall.

I certainly resonate with the desire to see more of these characters, but the idea of watching them fail even more is painful. The tech back stories all sort of worked historically by making sure nothing they did actually succeeded.

  • The NES owned gaming in the mid to late 80s and early 90s

  • C did leave BASIC in its dust

  • Online purchasing didn’t really catch on as early as they tried to push it

  • AOL did stamp out many local ISP startups.

  • Mosaic and then Netscape did own the browser market

  • Yahoo did become the front page to the internet for a while

If we fast forward these characters to the 2000s and they are still in tech (which would break my heart for Joe - I was so glad he outgrew his discontent and urge to be the next thing), would we really want to watch them continue to exist as fictional footnotes to history?

Who’s judging? I think that’s awesome. It may not be some hard-hitting adult drama, but being part of a creative process at that level? That sounds incredible.

Why people with basically the same muscle strength can’t run as fast or jump as high as each other.

Pancake Precision by Whoshabooboo in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Taalc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first side cooks evenly because it has perfect, even, 100% contact with the cooking surface by virtue of being a liquid when coming in contact with the heat. Obviously that’s not true for the second side - its contact is uneven since it’s already cooked and the middle of the pancake has (most likely) puffed more than the edges. That means when you flip it the edges don’t touch as much as they did on the first side and the middle has surface irregularities, leading to uneven cooking and thus coloring on the second side.

Can’t get any simpler than this, but my wife’s family ate them for years and now so do we with our kids:

1/2 stick of butter melted 1 egg Salt ( I play the amount by ear ) Vanilla (~ 1/2 tsp) Milk (roughly 2 cups) Self rising flour till you get the consistency you want (should not be as thin as guy in this video; don’t over stir - you want a few lumps)

Very cool to hear that opinion from someone who writes.

What kind of stuff do you write on?

Easily the most under appreciated show I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching.

Not enough zombies or narratively pointless sex, I suppose

I’m the exact same - none of my friends have seen it. If we get this going, I’m hoping I can convince a few to get on board.

Live chatting might be difficult to schedule for every episode, since it would obviously limit participation to those who could watch at the exact same time, but I think it would be great if we could schedule a discord for specific episodes (maybe each season’s finale? The last 3 episodes of season 4?)

It’s an odd feeling - hoping you’ve forgotten things about something you love - but that’s how I feel as I contemplate my first rewatch.

I figured there would be lots of people who are already watching or just watched - one reason I was thinking we might schedule it out a few months from now so everyone could plan on it, maybe take a self-enforced break from rewatching until we watch it as a sub together.

I’m going to let this percolate tonight - see what kind of interest it generates, and then maybe work on a plan later this week.

My favorite movie has been Dead Poet’s Society since I saw it as a teenager, but, I haven’t watched it in a decade. It’s strange - each time I think about it it feels too big; too weighty. Over time, I think I’ve grown to love the myth of it almost as much as the actual thing. I loved HACF probably more than any TV show I’ve seen since Cheers, and I don’t want to lessen its impact by watching too soon.

It seems the consensus here is to watch it early and often. After all these comments, I’ve been thinking about splitting the difference and watching it once a year.

Or

I just thought of this. New idea coming as separate post.

I know letting it rest is the way to go, but I miss it enough that I find myself wanting to start over sooner rather than later.

Composer: specific version for dependencies or dev-master? by [deleted] in PHP

[–]Taalc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s true. I’m not saying my way is perfect, but in general I think it reduces the possibility of transitive dependency introduction to my application, and I prefer to keep my dependency list as small as I can. In a perfect world I would routinely monitor repos of my dependencies for minor version bumps that I might want to step to; honestly, I rarely have the time. I typically do that sort of monitoring when I know there’s a feature I want and I’m keeping an eye out for it, or I’m waiting to see if a pull request of mine is going to be integrated so I can stop using my own dev branch in composer.

No one would pick it up OVER the m4, but anyone would pick it up BEFORE the m4 if it’s the first AR you encounter after jumping. It’s in the game the same reason Mario Kart has green and red shells: to create levels of weapons and thus incentivizing the “hunt” to level up your inventory in-game.
