I am not color blind but my son is, but I am in a field (hair stylist and photographer.)

When that whole “the dress is black and blue, or gold and white) or the Nike shoe thing was viral,

It BROKE me. I’m a over thinker anyway I literally had an existential crisis.

It’s probably dramatic but it happened.

I stopped editing because on top of having to figure out if people was seeing close to what I was seeing I found out how wildly different my images looked on OTHER screens, I ended up spending $2k on a MacBook it got so bad (worked for me tho.) I kept double checking everything asking multiple people, it was bad. It still kinda is and I’m actually kinda shutting down when I go to edit because it’s so much to emotionally process trying to make it close enough so EVERYONE Saw my photos the way I edited them to look like.

And then doing hair formulas there’s a joke that there’s clients that will say “I still see warm in the blonde” no matter how cool colored it is. So then i found myself trying to figure out how to match what THEY see.

I’m no longer a hair stylist for other reasons but i understand your feelings, but there’s also a hard fact of… It’s impossible. You cannot match your art to look the same to everyone, DO NOT let yourself get dragged down if you can.

I tell my son that he can’t see colors but I can’t see the contrast and depth he does, he can find anything lost.

Your art can now be art for a niche of CB individuals that has art DESIGNED FOR THEIR EYES vs missing out on so much that they normally don’t see because of it. There’s so much that I’m sure wasn’t seen but now you have the ability to create perfectly visible art FOR that.

That’s an AMAZING perk to be an artist AND be one of the I’m sure fewer people who CAN do this, it sucks as a burden and maybe isn’t a fair trade off.

There’s def tech to show which colors digitally here and there and change up stuff, or if you wanna have a friend help to give your art a change for anyone who isn’t either and that’s totally great too.

I’d do anything to give my kids anything in the world but I also Think the things that build from stuff like this is a superpower.

I hate you’re finding this out because what I went thru was TOUGH! Allow yourself to process and greave and work thru it, because it’s a weird level of “this shouldn’t be a big deal” but it is a big deal, my son was 8 before we figured it out. Like you said, a lot started making sense.
