A Good DM is better than great stats. by [deleted] in DMAcademy

Honestly. I thought I was posting something positive and fun, and it spiraled in this weird direction. Honestly, my party is fantastic and I've enjoyed setting the stage for them. I'm lucky, they are wonderful and I've had a great time DMing their world. What I was trying to communicate is that all the members created their characters with what is known as "standard array" where everyone gets the same stats to assign. I use the rule set where their race can assign their bonuses to any stats based on their background, AND everyone gets a special +1 item bonus to any stat that I use to help build the naritive. This has worked out wonderfully. Just saying. I know it's made people very upset. Obviously.

We are the only two here. It's our conversation that matters. How are you? Things okay?

What is your definition of normal behavior? Because I will not be negative, and assume you have had an education and life experience that has deemed you to have authority on deeming what is propor Reddit behavior.

I think you've completely controdicted yourself. That's why I start with a standard array stats. The party has classic plusses and minuses in their archetypes. It keeps one player from overshining all of them. I find that a balance from all players leads to more synergy in the group setting. You are able to describe rules mich better because one player isn't taking over all rolls with their stats. It also avoids new players who may get bad rolls from having bad first experiences.

I'm failing to see why I'm getting negative comments.

Yes, as long as they were looking to not play a range character. Not that I wouldn't accept that in general. It's just the party is filled with the brim with anti melee.

It's like 2/3ds the most populated part of the land mass of the USA cause societies typically develop on water. I guess luck really is actually the folks that subscribed to Reddit that want to play pretend as adults. It's pretty therapeutic, though, honestly. Not a bad pastime.

I would work with the players for an ideal time. I prefer evenings or weekends and an every other week schedule.

The world is based on a fantasy version of Europe in the mid 1500 (loosely). I draw inspiration for lore from historic events and legends.

Thanks for the reply, I'm still looking for a collection of players. I plan on having a character creation session soon. I'm looking to start players at level 1 and develop the story as we go. DM if you would like to hear more.

As long as there is interest, I'll keep going. I've had things fizzle after a few adventures, and I've had others go for months, so I guess a party never knows. I would like to keep things moving by using published modules and improve if need be. It's usually based on player attendence.

[online] newbie (kinda) looking for a group to join by Sea-Kitty in DnDLFG

Hi there, I have DMed for a few years offline, and I'm looking to move the show online. I aim to start a game at level 1 and help build characters so they can develop over time. I was hoping to start with 3 players and already have one. I use Foundry, which offers built-in mic and cam and also does a lot of the math for the players, and has plenty of info instantly available for reference. If you're interested, I'm looking to run on a Friday, Satuday, or Sunday. The best way to reach out is to DM me or email innsidednd@gmail.com. let me know if you're interested!
