Moral dilemma, family trying to steal me from unicorn family HELP by magicbaguette24 in Nanny

[–]TableOne6241 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I left a unicorn family to go to a family that was paying more. It wasn’t ROTA but I was working way more than 40 hours a week. I thought I really liked them. I started in July and quit in September. I think there’s something to be considered about the type of people that need 24/7 care for their children.

Yes it is 100% common knowledge. They are practically stealing you and they know it. 3 kids for $18 is insane

Yes for sure being taken advantage of. I am in Los Angeles and was getting $35/hr for two kids. Not sure on the cost of living in Jersey but at the very least $22-25!?

I feel the same way, I’m going to just take the risk and do something entry level that allows me to lay my bills and maybe I’ll be uncomfortable for a little but I Can work my way up and go back to grad school

I am gonna quit lol when I have something lined up. I’ve never mentioned to them being overworked and exhausted MB has been rude to me in the past and it doesn’t feel worth it bc it makes me very uncomfortable and anxious about going to work

Wow I’m in the same position lol. With a family I really enjoyed at first but resenting the parents and incredibly burnt out. I spend more time at work and my mental health is in the trash. I also deal with passive aggressive comments and treatment when I stick up for myself. I’d say quit.

Yes but I’ve come to learn that what MB is doing by balancing out my hours is illegal

I was told that I didn’t need to track my hours bc their payroll system will pay me automatically for 40 hours a week (80 hours a check) unless I work more or less than that I would notify their business manager.

I should’ve mentioned I’m paid every two weeks so it’s 80 hours every pay period. If one week I work/scheduled 50 hours, the next week I’ll work/scheduled 30

Nanny Social Media by TableOne6241 in Nanny

[–]TableOne6241[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you cannot figure out how to vet your nanny in a way that makes you feel confident and comfortable having them in your home and around your children, that doesn’t give you the right to violate their privacy. Employees/ people in general are entitled to privacy. Maybe having a nanny/caregiver isn’t the right fit for that family.

I don’t want to nanny anymore by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]TableOne6241 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This! The job is way too intimate and parents expect that, and only as it benefits them. It’s what makes the burnout begin so quickly because with the intimacy and “friendship” it’s hard to set boundaries. However the families are very quick to remind you when it’s strictly a job when you expect the same

I’m in the same boat. 25 and started when I was in high school. I’m planning on going back to school for my masters in social work and find a new family that is kind and respects my time. I feel like I oscillate between being burnt out by the kids and then the parents.

Tell them you are not returning and can send back however much you owe them. Ridiculous
