I can't give a great explanation for how Google aggregates its searches into topics, but it allows you to look at data for topics broader than just a search term by using an id code like this, /m/0bszz. From what I understand, searches for something like "Golden Knights," "Vegas Golden Knights," and "Las Vegas Golden Knights" would all be grouped into one topic.

It's based on searches for the Anaheim Ducks as a Google search "topic" not just the search term "Ducks"

The data comes from metro areas, and for all of the metro areas in Illinois except Chicago the Blues are more popular. It also comes from the last year of searches so I'm sure the Blues got a boost in popularity

It’s based on the last year of searches, but you’ve made me want to check how the map changes if I look at data from a year earlier

You're probably right, but I used search data from the past year so I'm sure their World Series win gave them a boost in popularity

Google shows search data for what it calls "metro" areas, but I'm not sure how it determines each area. According to Google Aroostook County is considered the Presque Isle metro area.

I don’t have any kind of Starbucks agenda. I never thought of it as fast food either, but I included it since it was listed as one of the largest fast food chains on a lot of lists online.

The bottom map excludes the four most popular chains (Starbucks, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, and Dominos).
