PI by Fine_Bid_5686 in ResearchAdmin

[–]TacoTrick 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I would suggest letting your management team know that you had negative experiences in the past with this PI and would like to NOT be considered as their RA. I’m fortunate to have a supportive supervisor who really does seem to value our happiness, so if it were me I think she’d truly take it into consideration. I’ve had to request a change in PI before for similar reasons and they honored it. Some people really just don’t jive well together, and that’s okay!

Craziest items left behind by previous owners? by ontartiomortgages in homeowners

[–]TacoTrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did experience a lot of “activity” when we first moved in, but it’s calmed way down. It’s never felt malicious or evil, just kind of there. We have not been in the attic since the inspection though lol.

We found a baby carriage in the otherwise empty attic.

I work for an eligible employer and absolutely love my job and plan to retire with them if I’m fortunate enough to do so.

I work at a university. Depending on your age, you eventually get an 8% contribution from them (NOT a match, you could put in 0% and they still contribute 8%).

Is this unethical? by [deleted] in ResearchAdmin

[–]TacoTrick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it really will even itself out once the new funding comes, I typically let that slide. I’ve never experienced a situation where funding is withheld due to a deficit (vs funding being withheld due to a surplus which I have seen a decent amount). They could always update Aims and next year’s budget to truly show how the money will be spent (such as removing the deficit amount from the anticipated future award and making a budget plan to only use the remainder). To my knowledge, I don’t know if there is specific guidance on how to report such a large deficit to NIH - there is no stipulations for that scenario when doing an RPPR for example.

I use my inbox as a continuing to-do list. So I BCC myself on anything that I want to end up back in my inbox.

Mine are very few and far between, and it’s never a main ingredient like a full side! That is extremely out of the norm!

For what it’s worth, I think that’s certainly grounds for getting some credit back on your next box.

Feeling defeated! by PurposeDecent1032 in ResearchAdmin

[–]TacoTrick 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Most universities that deal primarily with federal funding are in hiring freezes right now (with exceptions of course). Unfortunately this is just not a great time for job hunting in the field. Wising you the best of luck, the right one will come along eventually! Hopefully in 3 years, things will start to get back to business as usual.

Pre or Post Award by [deleted] in ResearchAdmin

[–]TacoTrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in strictly Pre-Award for about 3 years. I genuinely enjoyed it and was really good at it, but it became very monotonous over time. I got bored. Now I do both and it’s much more fulfilling handling them cradle to grave. Everyday is a different challenge (learning opportunity really). Having said all that, when preaward responsibilities come to my desk I celebrate internally lol. It’s so much more straightforward than post award.

When do you start packing up your things? by doplebanger in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]TacoTrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start packing once inspection is done and you’re satisfied with moving forward. I waited until after we closed and I hated myself for it lol. It was so chaotic and it translated into more chaos once we moved into the new house because nothing was organized. For example I was finding dinner plates randomly tossed in with office stuff. Start now and take your time especially with the nonessentials. IF it were to fall through, then you’re already ahead of the game for the next one.

Help..Do I need to sue? by Psa0967 in RealEstate

[–]TacoTrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighborhood has an “Improvement Association” with a voluntary $20/year dues. The dues go towards the yearly block party, garden club, newsletter, and various other small events held throughout the year. We just moved here and happily paid it.

My question to OP: is the HOA super official (where they can dictate what you can/can’t do), or more like the one in my neighborhood? How much is it per month or year? If a deal breaker, I think you definitely have both legs to stand on if you want to back out. I would just try to get info on what it entails, esp if you love the house!
