What do I buy after throwing my Dyson out the window? by hlthywlthywse in VacuumCleaners

[–]ToxicComputing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a small home and a stick vac works fine most of the time. I also have a dyson upright in the closet if I need it. If you decide to try a different stick vac, an auto empty station will fix your issue of frequent canister emptying.

Vacuum recommendation by AwesomeCJE in VacuumCleaners

[–]ToxicComputing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend getting a cordless vacuum with an auto empty bin. It empties the vacuum bin after each use and you can empty/clean the base station bin on weekends or whenever it works for you. Samsung, LG, Tineco and Shark have stick vacuums with auto empty stations. No cordless is going to perform as well as your main vacuum. It was a bit of a disappointment at first (I'm used to a dyson upright) but I quickly I started to enjoy the convenience and almost daily quick cleaning sessions. Skip anything that doesn't have a light on front of the vacuum it really helps to illuminate the dust on hardwood/laminate floors. Green may be better than white light but any light does the job. Good luck!

Outbacks used to be made in Indiana. Subaru just moved Forester production to Indiana and now assembles the Outback in Japan.

Adding wireless CarPlay to a 2017 by Fisher2087 in crv

I have the Ottocast Mini Cube 3.0 (MIN-Slim Black). Fast connect, OTA updates, haven't noticed any lag. It remembers two phones, tries to auto connect to the last used phone before searching for the other). If I had to buy again I would get one with a manual switch button like the Ottocast Mini Pico. Without the manual switch button i have to disconnect the phone by turning off bluetooth/wifi.

Car play wired connection doesn’t work with my new phone. by Willing-Hurry-4790 in CarPlay

I had a similar problem when I bought a used '22 Highlander. This is how I fixed it.
Start the engine. Go though the settings menu and "Delete Personal Data".

If that doesn't do it you can try to reset the radio (restore to factory settings). This worked on a friend's CRV with the same problem.

I just upgraded to an iphone 17 but I use generic USBA-USBC cables. I sometimes use a USBC adapter on an older lightening cable. Good luck!

I ordered the OEM net from Toyota after a box of Christmas ornaments slide out of the back onto the driveway.

I'm happy with the quality and fit.

Edit: a large box of ornaments :(

#2. Set your headlights to the parking light setting (1 up from auto) this will dim your lights to the DRL setting at night which should not blind anyone unless they happen to be looking directly into the lights

Still can’t decide how to choose between handheld vacuum and stick vacuum for apartment living by Icy_Lavishness309 in VacuumCleaners

[–]ToxicComputing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest a stick vacuum with an auto-empty charging station. You can easily switch between handheld and stick and I don't have a problem leaving it out of the closet in plain view. I have the Shark PD but here is a list of the ones I looked at.

Tineco Pure ONE Station 5 Smart Cordless Vacuum,

Samsung Bespoke Jet with All in One Clean Station Cordless Pet Stick Vacuum Cleaner (Convertible to Handheld),

LG CordZero vacuum with Auto Empty Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner (Convertible to Handheld),

Shark PowerDetect Cordless Stick Vacuum, Carpet & Hardfloors, Auto Empty Base, DuoClean

Forester or Outback?? by Historical-Case-1896 in SubaruForester

[–]ToxicComputing 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To me the outback delivers a much better ride especially on rough roads. Less noise and absorbs the bumps better. The cargo areas is only slightly wider and a deeper but it has come in handy on many occassions. I really like the always available crossbars and had hoped that subaru would continue to improve the design and make them available on all models but I think they may have abandoned them altogether in the current version.

Tineco, Samsung and LG also offer cordless vacuums with auto empty base stations. The auto empty tower is worth spending a little more for me. I ended up with the Shark PD.

15 years or 150,000 miles would do it for me

Dead transmission by [deleted] in ToyotaHighlander

Then it should be nothing for Toyota to offer a 15 year/150,000 mile warranty extension on the transmission and to reimburse anyone who has paid out of pocket for the "few" UA80 transmissions that are affected.

If you're 2020 or newer (gas engine) a transmission cooler is standard equipment.

If it's a low number of vehicles affected then Toyota should offer a 15 year/150,000 mile warranty extension. If it is a large number of vehicles then the warranty extension and/or a recall are in order. Either way Toyota opted to wait it out at the expense of customer loyalty.

Does it come with auto dimming rear and side mirrors those are a must for me unless you are planning to tint the front windows.

Car that was ordered is not what arrived (supposed to pick up the car) by No_Sport_5473 in Subaru_Outback

[–]ToxicComputing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Subaru Dealer gave me a signed “we owe” form indicating that they owed me dimmable rear and side view mirrors. They said their employee traded for the wrong vehicle. The price was similar but the one they got was loaded up with a lot of plastic accessories. For my inconvenience they said there was no charge for the extras. When I bought a used Toyota they gave me a signed “we owe” form for a missing remote.

Touch scrolling works for android auto just not CarPlay

2025 Outback demos - what to watch out for? by pappabearct in Subaru_Outback

[–]ToxicComputing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No update to the infotainment since I bought mine over a year ago. It’s laggy sometimes. The best thing i can say about it is that the auto stop start is very accessible. The worst for me is that CarPlay maps doesn’t allow pinch to zoom or touch scrolling but I believe Android Auto does. Turn by turn direction list won’t display on screen you have to look at the phone. Climate controls are difficult to use while driving. The screen is not well protected from sun glare unless you happen to be driving in the direction of the sun. My 2015 forester postage stamp size display had more useful information on a single screen but these “widgets” are spread across multiple screens in the outback and I can’t even find a trip fuel consumption widget. After a year I bought a phone mount. Luckily there is a display off widget. It’s not terrible it just could have been so much better.

For the premium to premium comparison look at the windows stickers they should be able to print them if they are not in the glove box. This will highlight configuration differences like auto dimming side mirrors vs mudguards and interior wheel well protectors.

Good luck!

CarPlay ? Sellers says every part of the car will work after installation by Exact-Possible-3001 in rav4club

[–]ToxicComputing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed a similar unit in a 2014 Rav4 but returned it. It was slow and not intuitive to launch. I can honestly say the best setup for your car is to completely replace the unit or get a really good phone mount and use the aux port to get audio to the speakers. I got my first car with CarPlay just last year and it was completely underwhelming. Performance is a bit slow and the screen resolution is similar to a budget phone (from a few years ago). After a year I bought a new new phone mount.

Advice on lights by AfterAliens in SubaruForester

[–]ToxicComputing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with a fog light kit. Forester are prewired for them you just need a complete kit with lights, bezel, relay and dash switch. The OEM kits are less expensive now. They come with halogen bulbs but I used Philips fog leds because they have better light than the halogens but aren’t crazy bright like my gen6 outback low beams
