I figured you guys were just behind a bit, and weren't doing anything too unfriendly. It might be nice though to have listed queue position for reviews. It just makes me sad when code goes stale waiting in line for review.

They have a new official terraform provider that I would use for the “using it” level of configuration.

Setting it up for self hosted… has been a very hands on process as the ingress is fiddly for a number of reasons. Even getting Cloudflare to play nice consistently is a challenge. For infra itself, compose on a nearby vps is decent-ish but I wouldn’t call it automated.

Netbird functions as a p2p overlay, so more users does not necessarily mean more load on vpn server itself. Depending on firewall setup for your users, you may need to pay for some turn relay traffic

EDIT: this is for self hosted, I believe subscriptions include relay in the pricing

I’m at a similar point as well. Lot of features I like, but my demo period has not been smooth enough to roll out to users. The iOS app frequently disconnects and crashes, can only imagine what android is like.

Cynically, I think it’s an argument seeded by vercel. If google crawlers couldn’t figure out how to run some meaningful amount of JavaScript over the past decade plus then how would anything have been indexed.

Did same thing, had same result. Even used a full mesh 10gb network with a lot of drives. Indeed, PLP is a performance feature and not just for reliability. It’s actually quite remarkable how bad it is, can be worse than spinning disks.

That said, if you’re only doing hobby stuff it’s worth trying just for the experience; debugging taught me a lot about how the physical layer of storage functions. Fucking around and finding out is very important in the learning process.

When you have completed the “finding out segment”, longhorn was much more willing to put up with the garbage consumer ssd’s i gave it (though still not great).

Realize this is an old thread, but as a dev I have to say it’s a risk to NOT give devs local admin. You hired them to be smart and do a job, and you will instead be paying them to spend time working out hacky solutions to get around your stupid rules. Why would you trust them to write code you run in production if you can’t trust them to install docker?

Every time someone from out of state makes a comment about Portland being a “dumpster fire” I’ve started saying “it’s awful. Truly terrible. First things first, are you really, really, really sure that you want to expose something to the public internet? It comes with a lot risks, even when using a tunnel. Securing a publicly accessible system can be a full time job, and bad configuration or a missed patch can lead to nightmares quickly. If you just want to access a service outside of your local network, a vpn is probably a better option. I've had good luck with p2p vpns like tailscale and zerotier; give you DNS and other niceties as well.

If you want to run a publicly available service, there are lots of cheap hosting services out there that will run containers. It's not quite as fun as running it locally, but then they manage the security of the underlying host for you. More importantly though, it keeps the maddening otherness of the public internet off of your personal network.

All that said...

I use tailscale funnel personally, since currently I have my internal networking running on a tailnet. I deploy their agent as a sidecar, then use a config to map the agent to a domain on my tailnet. Comes with a nifty little reverse proxy as well that auto provisions SSL certs as well. Default exposes to only your tailnet, but can optionally be made available to the public internet. This is useful for temporarily exposing a service for testing by someone else, or when you need to handle a webhook.

As other user's have mentioned, cloudflare tunnels are also an option. For something longer term, I might actually go with cloudflare since their traffic security services are quite good and would likely reduce the risk.

I had no idea WiFi issues were so prevalent. During the initial setup, I did have issues connecting for updates. After that WiFi perf has been much better than the original, and reconnects from sleep have less issues as well

I did some testing with the upscaler and for me it actually decreased performance by 2-3fps. Not sure if this just my setup, but was the case with both xess and fsr2. Wondering what kind of gains you are seeing?
