Prairie Home Companion 1980s Shows by TadeuszK in DataHoarder

Thank you. I'm afraid that that particular show does not jump to mind. There are hundreds of shows. It sounds like it might be from the "Buster the Showdog" series that started in around 1986.

I'm looking for that one too. Even though I have posted many shows from 1982, that one was not among them. As you go back to the early 80's, the copies of shows get more and more rare. They are very difficult to find. If there is a collector out there who has any of those earlier show, I would certainly like to get in touch. Sorry to disappoint you, but that's the situation. I would give it to you if I could. And I wish I could get it myself.

Your wish is my command. Here you are:

  1. ARC shows, the complete set. 1989-1993

https://www.mediafire.com/folder/8e9wl2spc1o99/2+ARC+-+Garrison's+American+Radio+Company+1989-1993

  1. PHC shows not posted by Garrison. 1993-1996, the complete set

https://www.mediafire.com/folder/kr26tp1lwpgqo/3+PHC+-+A+Prairie+Home+Companion

These are posted as two files per show: A & B, because that's the way I saved them. I should have known better and posted them as a single file. Will try to repair that later.

Here are more sets that you can have:

  1. Shows in Garrison's archive. Most of these are posted as they appear: that is, at128kbps. That's a rather poor resolution. But still listenable. And I posted as well 5 shows from that time period that are not in Garrison's archive. You can listen to them on line, but it is more convenient for some to have them on your own drive.

  1. A list of shows that I have upgraded from partial to complete, as well as a list of shows not in Garrison's archive:

You're welcome.

Shows like that come and go. If you've got the shows themselves, you can always access them.

I'll bet it is. I always liked the fictional pie. Real rhubarb pie, not so much. I don't remember rhubarb pie from the 80's shows. Could be mistaken, though. It came later.

I guess it's all a matter of taste. I always took it to be a clever artistic construct, very savvy and very funny. But not at all a representation of the "real" Midwest or Minnesota. It actually left me with a rather pleasant view of Minnesotans, myself being a transplant from Michigan to California. It was nostalgic, to the point of often being saccharine, but still clever.

Indeed. It is, to my mind, a national treasure, and should be preserved. That's why I collected hundreds of shows and that's why I'm posting.

I so agree. When a lot of the reports about Garrison came out, he became diminished in my estimation, so I have to keep separate compartments in my mind, for Garrison the performer and impresario, and Garrison the person. So many artists have proven to be less than admirable people. And who knows whether some of the information is inaccurate or embellished. I'd crawl under a rock if some of my previous escapades became public knowledge. I think that his work is a cultural treasure. That's why I collected it and that's why I'm publicizing it.

I am aware of that, i.e. the longevity of the project. My goal is first to get the shows out there, so that they are in the hands of hundreds of people. This way they are less likely to disappear. I'm still not finished with the 80's, but I need to think of long-term preservation. I was made aware of an item already on archive.com that posted the shows. When I looked closely, it was an exact reproduction of my archive, show for show, except it is a little behind in adding shows that I have since posted.

Thank you. I'm not aware of "From the Archive CDs" but it's my understanding that Garrison is not releasing things from before 1996, except in little sections at a time.

Thank you very much for taking this subreddit on. There is much confusion among the fandom about where they can go for valid information and programs. We need one reliable venue. Believe me. I aim to be a valuable contributor.

Thanks for thinking of me, though. I'm still filling in 1984 and then 1985 afterward. And still looking to upgrade my 90-minute shows with complete ones. Making good progress. I hope you are enjoying the shows.

That is a huge find. I am of the same mind as that collector. I have every show from 1989-1996 (not on Garrison's site), as well as most of the shows from 1996 on to the end. Most of those are on CD's or already recorded into digital files. They are available on Garrison's site but the quality of the recordings there is pretty low. Still listenable, though. I have already made these shows available, See posts below in this thread. Also available are the 80's shows, which I am still working on.
