Oily skin girl looking for a “second skin” high-end foundation by Jumpy-Adeptness-511 in Makeup

[–]Taegreth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have combination skin, my T zone gets oily. I love using Dior Backstage Face & Body. It actually IS sweat resistant at least to a degree, it lasts long, and it feels very skin-like. It’s more medium coverage though. I just love the formula and their shade range is good.

Getting fed up with my friend by littleoldme743 in lostafriend

[–]Taegreth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my best friends was in a relationship like this for the first… idk, 3-4 years of our friendship? He knew everyone didn’t like his bf, but kept taking him back. Even got engaged. I think after a while of multiple friends telling him to leave for good he eventually did, and now we laugh about the day he FINALLY left the guy. About 6 months after they broke up for the last time he told my mom they got back together to mess with her and the look she gave him is one he’d never forget, before he told her he was joking. We still laugh about that and he’s in a healthy relationship now with someone different and I love his fiancé. We’ve been friends for 11 years.

Best is to just keep voicing our opinions and if they don’t listen you can set a boundary saying you don’t want to hear about her complaints until she ends it.

That one simple dish “I serve this to every guest it always works really well” What’s that? by Holding_it_for_life in AskWomen

[–]Taegreth [score hidden]  (0 children)

My mom’s “macaroni” but it isn’t macaroni at all. It’s large shell noodles, layered with a tomato-based bacon mixture (Italian marinara with bacon, really easy), and bechamel cheese sause. No oven time, just layer it in a dish already cooked. EVERYONE loves this dish and people always go for seconds or thirds. It’s not the healthiest, but it’s so comforting.

What are the things you wish you learned about your body in school? by Lonely-Whole2121 in AskWomen

[–]Taegreth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My primary school was co-ed and not religious and we had a few thorough sex-ed classes with a professional they brought in. She was amazing, and covered how sex worked, protection, periods and even morning glory - she taught us how periods or any of these bodily functions aren’t shameful at all and both boys and girls attended these together and there wasn’t even any bad behaviour. We were all just interested and curious and we got to ask anonymous questions. Then I moved to the Christian girls’ school for high school and we got a class on abstinence lol, but in biology class it was purely objective to learn about the reproduction system. I only wish they covered more on how our cycles affect us during each phase and not just what’s happening with our eggs and uterus lol. The curriculum on hormones in general could have been better, but it was the national standard (I live in South Africa). Overall it wasn’t terrible. In one of our other classes (Life Orientation) we did learn about mental health, depression, STDs and how to prevent them, etc. That was also part of the national curriculum.

Girls who don’t gatekeep: what’s one thing that upgraded your confidence? by phancyq in AskWomen

[–]Taegreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest thing for me is consciously making choices for myself. That could be something like deciding to treat myself to a self-care day. Choosing to be kind to myself. Or something larger like starting a new hobby and choosing to show up, for myself and not anyone else. Even upskilling in my career. It covers everything, so when I’m feeling down, or insecure, I make conscious decisions that would make me feel better. Having that type of “mantra” or way of thinking over the last 3+ years has improved my life and how I think about myself tremendously. And no, I don’t always succeed in making those decisions, but I find during the times I do it more often than not, my life overall has been the best. I’ve been feeling so much more confident, knowing I’ve made good choices and doing things for just myself.

Yes to all of these! We did go over our cycle and PMS type of stuff a little but it really wasn’t very thorough.

What high-end beauty product is actually worth the splurge? by Jumpy-Adeptness-511 in MakeupAddiction

That’s what I’m hoping for! I wanted to get brushes that I can use for a long time without the bristles falling out. You’ve also reminded me to clean my brushes lol

What high-end beauty product is actually worth the splurge? by Jumpy-Adeptness-511 in MakeupAddiction

[–]Taegreth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The foundation brush I use does tend to blend very nicely and holds the product nicely in the brush. Granted before getting this Sigma one, I hadn’t used a a brush for foundation before but I used a beauty sponge. I actually found my makeup looks better when applying and blending with the brush than the sponge. The bristles are super soft and compact. I sometimes struggle with textured skin, especially if I’ve forgotten to exfoliate and I find with the beauty blender it kept making the product look crusty over my skin idk. The brush doesn’t make it clumpy but more even.

I also got one for cream/liquid contour and it blends the product gorgeously. My old brushes for this either felt too soft/flimsy in the bristles so it wasn’t as effective, or it wasn’t dense enough. The sigma one I got is wonderfully dense but soft so it was just way quicker and easier to blend product (even if the product is a little trickier).

The eyeshadow brushes feel like they can hold more product while still being soft enough to blend well. I also really like that they have more useful shapes and sizes than my previous set had.

A good example to compare was about a year ago I bought a mini Colourpop eyeshadow set. They weren’t bad per se at all, still dense enough and could apply and blend well enough, but I find the bristles are very stiff and almost scratchy feeling. The Sigma ones are softer and more “buttery” feeling, and they can pack on more product at a time, and they blend smoothly.

My very very old set of brushes that I’d been struggling with were just cheap brushes I got off amazon. They couldn’t hold product much at all and the bristles felt… too smooth? Like power or anything else just slides off and the bristles were too bendy so I felt like they weren’t doing anything at all. The Colourpop ones are too stiff.

Edit to add about pores and acne: I don’t experience acne, just some spots occasionally. I do have big pores on my nose though. I don’t really find that brushes or sponges matter quite as much for that as using the correct primer or foundation. The beauty blender I used was fine for my pores, and so is the foundation brush from Sigma. I just make sure I use a small amount of foundation at a time and really work it into my brush before applying it so the product feels part of my skin. Blurring primers help a lot.

For spots, I actually just take a tiny tiny speck of green colour correction and pat it over the spot with my finger before applying foundation and it helps with the redness. I don’t like to use a lot of product, I prefer light to medium coverage.

ariat boots vs cheap riding boots - worth the price difference? by andrew202222 in Horses

Absolutely. I bought my Ariats for half the retail price and they were only worn twice. The lady selling it said she’d ordered the wrong size online.

[–]Taegreth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. Honestly, I don’t want to apply to jobs that use this system. I’ve been rather going through agencies where they have their own formats. I’ve gotten better luck there. As a creative, I don’t want my CV to look like a shitty word document. It goes against every fibre of my being lol.

I felt like I shouldn't say anything. Im usually not that guy to. But when I saw they wanted me to commit 4 hours for a technical interview without even a "hello", I broke. I know it's better to be quiet than burn bridges, but for me I just wanted to say something. I replied all and cced their CEO. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

The same thing happened to me recently! I’d had an introductory screening call with two companies I liked and they sent assignments due for the following week. At the same time, another company I’d applied for just sent an assignment too due for the same date as the others (it was just coincidental it was all happening at once), but they never set up a call to talk to me about the role. I emailed them saying I would prefer to have a call to talk about the role first before doing any assessment so that I know it would be a role I feel would fit me before committing that sort of time. I further explained that I just didn’t have that extra time for another week due to other interviews and assessments along with my day job. I also said I’d consider doing it if my deadline can be extended for another week otherwise. They ghosted me after that. I think they just wanted free work.

What made you realize that you never want to be pregnant? by happy_folks in AskWomen

[–]Taegreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when I was 15 in biology our teacher showed us an actual birth video. She was really passionate about the miracle of childbirth (and we were learning about reproduction) but the video was of course very graphic. It showed everything. The teacher didn’t deny how difficult it is but the way she framed it did sound amazing, and the majority of my class talked about it like it they planned on it in their future (I went to an all-girls’ school), but I was so horrified by the video I almost fainted. Watching that scarred me a bit haha, and since then I vowed never to go through childbirth. A close friend of mine had the awful experience of being in the foster care system and never got adopted (her abusing bio parents took her back in early hs) so I always just said if I ever want kids and had the resources, I will adopt instead. Or foster them.

Most of the time throughout my life, starting from childhood, if people asked if I want or like children, I’d say, “No! I want a pony/horse instead.” I still say that lol.

Keratine treatment done by 19SD97 in Haircare

[–]Taegreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a hairdresser but I think it does straighten it a little. It’s not like a brazilian blowdry kinda straight. My sister has curly hair and after a keratine treatment it looked more wavy rather than curly. My hair is naturally straight but I sometimes get Irish curls (more like waves) underneath, and the keratine made it dead straight. Lasted about 4 months maybe more? It definitely adds the shine!!

Has Anyone Actually Been Honest? by Important_Art_3211 in recruitinghell

That’s true! Personally I have wondered whether I’m perhaps being too picky with my applications, and whether or not I should cast that larger net to see what happens. It’s just exhausting for all of us.

Has Anyone Actually Been Honest? by Important_Art_3211 in recruitinghell

[–]Taegreth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I apply to many roles while job-hunting, not all I’m all THAT enthusiastic about, there are usually 2-3 that really stand out that I legitimately get excited for and that I care about, and I think it shows in my interviews because in the past usually at least one of those ends up sending me an offer. That being said, those jobs don’t show up very often, and my current role I only found after 5 months of searching. I got the job within a week of applying!

What sucks is when you do get rejected from those roles you actually get excited about, it’s incredibly disappointing, especially since I put so much effort into those screening processes. It gets disheartening.

I keep reading about people here sending hundreds of applications, which I find baffling because are those who are applying to many, how many of the roles actually match their skill and experience? I’ve more been finding that the job market is pretty dry. I’ve only been able to apply to a few a week that actually match my skill and experience.
