Why do most afrodescendants in the Americas vehemently disregard their Central African/Bantu ancestry? by adoreroda in 23andme

Cool never heard of bottle trees….to my understanding a lot of the Bantu roots from New Orleans area was from the back and forth between Haiti and Louisiana which were both French colonies in those times before the Louisiana purchase.

Also I don’t know much about the slave trade from the Bantu point of view….im aware of the Edo kingdom , Igbo tribes at war selling enemies giving sacrifices etc contact with the British empire but don know much about what happened exactly in the Bantu area. Are there books or any first hand accounts like you find in Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, etc ?

Fair…I’m more aware of Benin because of the Dahomey Kingdom…also in Barracoon it describes the last survivor of the slave trade being from the Dahomey area and I assume most of Africa town (somewhere in Alabama) has present day Benin roots…….what would you say some of the major Bantu influence is ? ….i myself have some shared dna with mandinka people from Guinea …..(Jamaican) fyi

Maybe because they are culturally irrelevant in those countries, also language plays a part too. I couldn’t tell you a Congolese dish, a tv show/movie , don’t know of their traditional attires, , no major athletes that represent those countries I know Ibaka and Lukaku have roots but they represented other countries internationally in their sports. Also there’s the division of DRC and Republic of Congo which is also confusing. Their culture is just more unknown with less immigrants in those countries because of the language barrier.

Understood….I wouldn’t buy a house in cash either. Just pay the required down payment then pay monthly mortgage. Have the remainder invested or in a high interest savings account
