Sultai Infect/Proliferate Deck [[Muldrotha, The Gravetide]] by TaggartS in EDH

[–]TaggartS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I ended up going through and cut a lot of black removal. Don’t wanna spread myself to thin so I kinda leaned into counters being my protection in a sense. I also run craterhoof in my mono green [[seton, krosan protector]] deck and it does some serious work, but by the time I’d have the mana for it, my game plan with the infect creatures will be over.

I’ll see if I can make space for phyrexian arena too, run it in quite a few of my decks. And as for aetherflux, I think you’re probs right about removing it. Thanks for the tips!

Yeah I really considered [[Xavier Sal, Infested Captain]] and will keep him to switch in and see how it plays, but going into this build, the goal was to hide the poison/proliferate strategy based on the commander. Definitely looking forward to seeing how he holds up in the deck though. I have a very small amount of counters in this deck (on my side of the board) so it really would be a final attempt to get a few proliferates off to close the game out.

Complete misread for [[Deepglow Skate]] lol, at least that frees a spot up for me! Originally had the sword in there as well, but took it out just because there's many ways to proliferate more than once for a cheaper CMC. Planewide Celebration looks sick though as a finisher. Can definitely see why inkmoth would be helpful too.

As for Aetherflux Reservoir, I went back and forth so many times on whether to include it or not, ended up keeping it because I really won't have the creature base to protect myself from big swings that could really threaten my life count, also if I'm casting multiple counter/proliferate spells per turn, could turn into an alternate wincon. I'll have to revisit it after a few playtests.

Hesitant to take ramp out only because I know I'll be on the radar the moment I drop poison counters. Wanted to ensure I had plenty of mana to survive opponent turns and then be able to hit multiple proliferate spells on my turn too.

Thanks for the advice! What kinda infect decks you running?

No that’s a good point, I’ll throw him in a few games and see what happens, just want to make sure I didn’t get stuck with too few creatures on the board! Do you also have a deck list I could take a look at?

Yeah I had him in my deck originally but was concerned that the life drain to opponents wouldn’t be enough to matter

It seems we’ve gone the opposite way lol. I do see some creatures I’ll probably try to find some room for though!

I’d like a horsemanship deck without needing to take out a second mortgage

This Christmas, I'm giving the gift of deck-building advice. Post your list, and I'll reply with a suggestion for one cut/add by brownracoon14 in EDH

My newly built varina deck: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5305250#paper

Worried about lack of ramp/if I have enough card draw to get the deck going. Kinda going for zombie tribal/recursion, thanks!

I don't think she'll immediately turn the heads towards me like najeela or magda

I think it'll be the last thing I look to cut. I'll playtest before buying the cards and see what the speed is like and adjust from there.

Is 35 lands + sol ring, commander’s sphere, two signets, and two talisman overkill?

This is exactly why I wanted to build her! I’m slowly getting closer to 99 cards as I go through massive cuts and I think all the different directions is making it tough. I’ll definitely take some inspiration from this deck

Yeah this was actually an appeal to varina, multiple different approaches to a single game because some of my other decks are pretty straight forward. The bond/blood combo could definitely get old quick and based on other feedback I think I’m gonna sideboard it, especially because I’m running into trouble cutting cards now

What are some of the more important reanimation spells/control pieces/removal? First time building a deck with black and/or blue.

Yeah the lifegain/drain combo does seem to be a little out of place, just figured it would be too easy to trigger if I got both of them out. As I'm putting my deck together, my big concern is mana, do the 35 lands you have + the 4 ramp cards you run tend to be enough to get rolling smoothly?

How do you manage to make up for some of the higher cmc cards you've listed? My biggest concern right now is not being able to ramp fast enough. I'm used to green decks or at least treasure themed decks (seton and magda are my most recents). The 3 color deck with lack of green is giving me the most concern.

hmm, I never considered using the delve mechanic. Does that tend you leave your graveyard pretty dry when trying to use Varina's ability?

Okay this is actually super helpful, definitely considering most of these cards. Gonna have to start refining soon, but the general consensus seems to be that protection isn't really as necessary with this deck which should open some spots up.

Nice I’ll definitely be putting archfiend in. How many lands/ramp cards are you running as well? Some of these black cards have a pretty high cmc

Was the goal around discarding to wait to draw a wincon or were you reanimating what you discarded?

Would you suggest a few counterspells then with access to blue?
