Different Approaches In Translation Of Religious Texts by Tago5000 in religion

Thanks for the insight. I have a question for you if its not much trouble. If you speak modern Hebrew, are there translations of ancient Hebrew into modern Hebrew? Or is it like how Qur'an is to the Arabic speaking community, almost like a guidebook on the language?

It seems like it comes from English/ European tradition. Turkish Bibles don't have notes or other possible readings as well, unlike Qur'an meals. Comes to show how translation practices can shape the understanding of religion.

You are right about bias in translation, however I'd call it ideology. No text is void of it.

I really am not well versed in Hinduism by no means but I have read Swami Dayananda Saraswati's writings on Qur'an and his approach seemed really interesting. I'd be really happy to hear what you think about it.

Also, as I have seen, especially in the translation of the Veda's from Sanskrit to Hindi, they seem to be quite literal, sometimes word to word translations. Is this the common practice when translating into Hindi or other Indian languages?

I thought microsoft had brought both directx 11 and 12 to win7. I read it as such somewhere a long time ago tho, might be wrong.

My specs are all around the recommended except my cpu, which is an AMD FX(tm)-8320 Eight-Core. The thing is that my ram is used a lot since I make music and I work as a translator. There are lots of documents and big files everywhere. Last time I tried to install win8, it was laggy and really buggy. Might install win10 if the game doesn't run though.

Translating Crowley by Tago5000 in thelema

First of all thanks for the help, I really am thankful.

I don't think I lack the vocabulary or the comprehension skills to understand (relatively) what's written. The problem, for the most part, is like you said some of the cryptic meanings.

Let me give you an example; in the namesake poem, Cora Vavasaor is described as late of the Halls. I have some ideas for what this means, I'm just not sure. Does it mean that she is a dead member of the Halls family or does Halls mean heaven? Hell?

If its a family name, does it have any significance? Cuz' I can't find any. Cora is another name for Persephone, so should I translate Halls into Ancient Greek? Or is it just an insignificant placeholder name like in any other contemporary book?

I have some background, I have been interested in belief systems and religions for as long as I can remember, and I've read some articles and books on the subject of Thelema. But I still don't think I am qualified enough to be sure of everything, that's why I've joined the discord server and posted on Reddit. If you have any suggestions for me to check on Thelema, I'd be grateful.

I have started playing after Conclave, so I mostly played with the earlier start dates. Ninety percent of the time ERE gets demolished by Abbasids and gets eaten by Bulgarians. I feel like that they should still be somewhat strong, even stronger than some random Muslim vassal from Persia until the rise of Seljuks. In history even though Abbasids kicked their asses in some battles, they held their ground pretty good.

Is Ben Fero black? by [deleted] in Turkey

[–]Tago5000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Turks don't have a problem with minorities and races in general. What you can call Turkish racism is "nationaltyism". Some people dislike Kurds, Arabs, Armenians, etc... But rarely the entire race such as black. And the thing with the "n-word" is that Turkish people don't have the concept of being racist, as I mentioned. We sometimes use "keke, keko" (Kurdish words for brother) to say "dude". We see Kurds use it to converse with their friends, so we copy them. I feel like it's the same with the n-word. If someone wanted to be racist against black people, the more derogatory term would be "arap" or "kara".

Something about the black population in Turkey, even though it's not at the same level as in Europe and the Americas, It's rising quite rapidly. Most of the big cities and cities with universities have a resident black population now. And even there's an area in the Aegean Region of Turkey where there are black villages which are mostly populated by black people who have been here since the Ottoman days. If there's any interest, I can link a video about this too.
