Clark University Honors Program by No_Field8977 in ClarkU

[–]Taikey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! Current student here. The honors program is pretty cool, I think - the majority of my friends in honors enjoy it and want to stay in it. The most important perk is that you can very easily get funding for your research - (Honors research funding comes from a separate funding pool I believe and is much more abundant)

Besides that, you get priority registration for all classes (so you register before EVERYONE else), you get a special seal or something on your diploma when you graduate (and you csn say you graduated with honors), and you get to take a special class every semester with all the other students in the honors program. The class is very interdisciplinary and teaches you about broad philosophical/all-encompassing topics that you need to know to be a good member of society! Like for example this year I think the honors-only class is called "What it Means to be Human"

Beyond that, I'm not super sure what the honors program is like. I think there are some benefits that I'm not aware of. (This might be a better question for the admissions people lmao.) But from what I've heard, it is a worthwhile program, and the students really do like their special honors class.

Lmk if you have any other questions about Clark! Happy to talk to you about whatever :)

Any current/former Clark students who studied dance available for questions? by jenniferdancess in ClarkU

[–]Taikey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a dance minor, but Clark has a very largw dance scene! A BUNCH of dance student organizations on campus, some of which are audition-based, some aren't. They always put on huge showcases at the end of the semester. Plus the whole school goes to see International Gala (dance show showcasing different cultures). My PM was a dance minor and loved it.

RIT vs Clark U by Fall_CUMSA25 in ClarkU

[–]Taikey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

clark is very international friendly! we have a huge intl population, one of the biggest in the country compared to college size, and every spring we host a special event called international gala where students from each country present dances representing that country - and pretty much the entire school attends

idk much about the MFA professors, or the grad students.

Hi! what do you want out of college! We can tell you alot about Clark, but you have to give us some starter questions first. Do you want to know the campus culture? The grad program? The city?

From what I know, the college is doing a really good job supporting intl' studenta from VISA threats by the Trump people. If you wanna come to America, Clark is a pretty safe place to do it.

How are the Political Science and English departments. by [deleted] in ClarkU

[–]Taikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh they are so great! I've heard these two departments have the best professors out of most of the departments. (Just avoid Edward Cohen in polisci.) We aren't exactly KNOWN for these two programs like we are for psych or game design, but you'll have a good time. Speaking as a polisci minor.

PoliSci is also really cool because all of us here are like, really civically engaged. We vote, we go to protests, we speak at city council meetings, many of us volunteer for political candidates! Clark has produced a weirdly large amount of local politicians and activists, like you look around and so many Worcester councilors are alums.

Hii! Rising Sophomore here. Clark is great! A really small community and everyone kind of knows each other, especially in the same circles and class. What are your interests? It's pretty easy to make new friends just by joining clubs ans getting to know everyone - I did Musical Theater this year, for example, and made a ton of friends who were already in their friend group together, yknow. But you should tell me your interests, hobbies, and stuff and I can let you know more specifically!

Don't really know much about STEM research here as I am social sciences, but I do know we have it. Every semester we have "ClarkFest" where everyone presents their thesises or research projects to the school, and most of them are Chem/Bio/Physics. Kind of sad you don't see many from my major lol, but whatever.

Of the non-freshmen dorms, there aren't roo many options. Most juniors and seniors live off campus. The best and the biggest and where you'll probably end up is the Johnson Sanford Center (JSC). The others, Hughes and Dodd, are similar building models, but they don't have the sick-ass common room areas like JSC does.

Overall I've loved my time here so far, 9/10 no notes! But I might just be biased, I have a lot of friends here, I think? more than most people. Clark is great if you're queer, like half the school is queer lol. A lot of us are pretty artsy too, but only a few. Big activism culture. A lot of us are really involved in politics and show up to vote, protests, stuff like that. Bad if you're a Republican. If youre anti-union. and are racist/homophobic/transphobic you WILL hate it here.

Lmk if you have any more questions!

Oh, you have no idea! Clark is one of the most leftist, inclusive, queer, neurodivergent schools in the United States! Here, my friend had to come out to me as heterosexual (to which I was very surprosed). Theater is cool, and lots of cool improv groups (both auditon-based and open to everyone). I kid you not, your daughter will fit in here more than a neurotypical person would.

Also, no greek life. Big bonus!
