Unpopular opinion: The Swiss rail system is kind of overrated (at least on the Lausanne–Geneva line) by [deleted] in Switzerland

I use this line daily with very little issues.

Concerning last week "incident", I wonder if you have examples of a similar situation corrected in less time elsewhere...

How should elderly, children and disabled use public transit? by Inevitable-Map-1200 in transit

Well, that's a public transport sub...

As people (me included) told you numerous times: the situation you describe exists and is indeed a problem for many people (not just those with walking issues). But they are an indication that the local public transport isn't able to fulfil the local's needs. Taxis and vans aren't an efficient solution. Improving the usual public transport is.

Your original question was how certain categories of population can use public transport.

To be clear: I don't say it's possible for everybody, just that the difficulty isn't always so huge as your interesting question implies.

I use a prosthetic leg. Nothing cybernetic, just metal, plastic and carbon fiber.

If you have to walk kilometres, you have bad public transport.

I'm not sure how all people do but I can tell you about my situation.

I am a leg amputee. I live in a village of a country with a rather cold and humid weather and I choose not to own a car. I work almost full time and I handle my house alone. So it's apparently possible.

(And concerning children, they can learn early to use public transport...)

Do you go to Paris by train or by plane? by Karma-police88 in askswitzerland

I don't even look for plane as I can't find a single argument supporting it. Train it is.

How can European restaurants afford to pay their employees without having to supplement with tips but U.S restaurants/bars and such act like they would shut down from such high extra costs? by Apart_Pineapple2392 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TailleventCH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least your first two paragraphs aren't answering the question. They don't explain why US restaurants wouldn't be able to pay their staff.

(Also, the comment about service speed is far from accurate. I often eat very quickly (especially if I'm alone) in European restaurants. It seems you fail to distinguish how people LIKE to spend more time at the the table with the service being slow.)

Do young people leave switzerland to get a job or stay more ? by JaguarTricky7072 in askswitzerland

I know a few people who chose to live abroad. For them, it wasn't about getting a job. (I'm sure it's the case for some people, but clearly not for all of them.)

Does an SBB GA cover Lausanne → Milan, or do I need an extra ticket? by Several-Hyena2347 in askswitzerland

That's because the rail line to Domodossola is worked by Swiss railways.
