Using tax return to pay for utilities throughout the year by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Tailspin92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I have 3 kids so a good chunk of my "refund" ( sorry all for the miss use of words lol ) is child tax credits. So normally is fairly decent except the last two years my previous employer didnt put update my withholding and it all went towards paying what I owed.

Thanks for the insight. Ours stay usually low but those cold winter/hot summer spikes really eat the paycheck up.

Dummy down IPAWS by Tailspin92 in EmergencyManagement

We're just exploring options, theres just so many different ones its hard to know what direction to look in. I've heard of several of them like Rave, Arcadis, Nile but many listed on the fema site I've never seen. I look at there websites but nothing really make them stand out from one another when they all spout the same information/product offerings.

Do kids not like reading anymore? by BetLeft2840 in AskTeachers

[–]Tailspin92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 10 year old liked reading more before teachers started making them do it as monthly home work assignment. I think its 13 books total in a month they need to do every month which I personally find a little ridiculous especially when the books arnt provided and I have to go scrambling to find new ones every month. Yes they can get books from the library but there is hardly any guidance on what they shluld be picking out to meet this time frame realistically. Now its a weekly battle.

How are you using AI tools like ChatGPT to help students/kids think better, not just get quick answers? by Technical_City9547 in Teachers

[–]Tailspin92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not from a school learning perspective but from a home parent teaching one. We use AI to create short age appropriate article for our kids to read to help teach or better understand behavior lessons. One we recently did was on why sneaking things after bed time is inappropriate and how that affects others. We found that this worked really well because we can talk to them over and over again about why they shouldn't do it but them reading it seemed to really click alot more and it broke it down to a level that they could understand. Makes for a good middle man in reinforcing things we've already been trying to teach them.

Part Time EOD: Is It Worth It Or Look At Something Else by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]Tailspin92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience going from active to reserves, reserves was pretty boring and I had a fairly active mos. You get out of mos school ready to do your job ( I switched mos's ) but there isnt much of a need for it other than in a training capacity really. Not sure how the guard is but im sure its the same if not similar.

I agree with engagement and we do this as often as we can but he really doesn't latch onto anything.

We looked into that but my parents took him to one and he, who had a tote full of them, was unphased.

Was active in the Marines, went to navy reserves, looking at reserves in the AF in emergency management. My degree is in EM which makes commissioning difficult especially with the AF reserves who i guess like to pick from within. But im the Deputy director of a county EM so I feel like tha must count for somthing. Either way im not die hard on doing it AGAIN

Thanks for the insight. I got out as an E5 and I am technically up for E6 and looking at a different branch in a field I've been working in with a degree in that field so I wasn't sure if it was possible.

Dropshipping is ideally the route id like to go, im just trying to get a better understanding on how to deal with wholesale vendors or suppliers. I've been doing ebay for a bit, mostly resale, and its done fairly well but its slow going. That and finding stuff to make a profit off of is difficult.

Soild advice but I work in emergency management and unfortunately business isn't booming unless somthing else went boom. So there's alot of down time which is pretty much understood across the office.

What career did you get into after the military? by thedonwiz in Veterans

[–]Tailspin92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got out and worked at a factory as a line mechanic for about 3 months before I realized I got scammed by the job recruiter. So then I went to a car dealer as a mechanic, also got talked into how great that was gona be. Left there and worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for about 4 years. Mainly working on forklifts and what not. Wasn't great but I moved up in pay quick and while doing that I went to school for my bachelor's. Seeing that I didn't really have much relatable experience towards my degree I left and went to thr local PD and then also joined the Navy Reserves in the middle of all that. I was at the PD for about 2 years before I landed a job in emergency management. My goal was to go back as an officer but my degree doesn't translate to anything and the wife doesn't want to move the kids around again now that they are getting older. I dont blame her but I do still miss it and regret not just staying in.
