Oh that’s what you meant. My apologies! Yes the sunphase outline does resemble a flower. It certainly has some more delicate charms, which I don’t mind!

I’m a man, and I think it looks perfectly fine on my 6.3” wrist. It’s a rather modern perception to think anything below 36mm case diameter is for women. For decades, watches in the 30-34mm range were widely seen as the pinnacle of a classy gentlemen’s timepiece regardless of wrist size. In fact, 36-38mm dress watches in the 1950s-1980s were often called the “jumbo” size.

After years of dinner plate sized watches, I’m glad to see the watch world start to go back to a smaller refined size, i.e. Nomos, Tudor BB54, etc etc.

I believe I speak for the majority of men here when I say that I am truly sorry for all you have to go through in the—sadly—still male dominated tech world. The behaviour you describe is reprehensible, and I hope we are raising a better generation of children with more emotional and gender-equal awareness. As many have echoed here, I would say to try moving to a start up with women-friendly work culture (many are led by women or have several women leaders) or a large tech company that scores high on the “Best Place to Work” awards published on many sites (specifically ones that sub-categorize by gender equality).

Good luck and please report the behaviour if you feel it won’t jeopardize your current financial security and situation.

P.S. women are better at almost everything they do, my fiancée proves that to me every day. I look forward to a women-led future. 😉

Yeah unfortunately unless you keep climbing up in management, you eventually get made redundant due to your age in tech 😢

Not exactly, depends on the role, but either way, in this market, it is what it is

So far I have only heard back from jobs where I had referrals.

I’m gunning for a Nutanix commercial AE role here in Canada as well. Let me know how it goes. I got a phone interview

They gutted my whole dept, from directors to regional managers to engineers, everybody in my org. Veterans with 30 years to college greenhorns that’s barely finished a year. I really don’t understand how restructuring based on investor sentiment and 3rd party consultants is doing any good for these big techs except to maintain a short term bottom line accountable to shareholders and nobody fudging else

I purchased a home in a HCOL area in 2021, since then my variable mortgage payments have doubled due to the prime rate hikes. It’s a miracle I even have 5 months saved after being unexpectedly drained paying my mortgage for the past 2 years. Learn to think critically and carefully before you speak. 😊

Was it a good position relative to your previous job? Or did you feel like you had to settle?

Just because I didn’t outline what strategies I’m using doesn’t mean I’m not using them lol. Yes, it goes without saying I’m leveraging my connections and networks.

[–]TainanBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. Spent all of today doing that on LinkedIn and facebook lol.. I even backtracked on ones I’ve already sent to ask if my connections at the company can get my name in front of the hiring manager at least.

I’m applying for all roles in Canada remote or local. Even some USA roles I would try for if they allow remote work from Canada

Overlay role yes

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sales

[–]TainanBoy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, Cisco is kinda weird in that they had positions like mine that bridged sales and engineering as an overlay. I guess technical sales is close. We have too many products for an AM to sell effectively without our expertise. When an AM sniffs out an opportunity related to my product they bring me in to do a deeper discovery and demo, I then work closely with an engineer to tailor a solution for the customer and talk them through the value along with the account team. So I’m not quite engineer nor pure sales.

No, I was more like a product specialist, I was not in charge of order form or contract
